Little Four Updates Are Coming SOON In Fact We Have A LIVE Report

The Pizza Hut Little Four Basketball Tournament is under way at the Greensboro Coliseum and from what we have seen so far the Dudley boys look to be “the team to beat”, and with that title they came into the tournament with the prestigous #1 seed. We have been impressed with Dudley’s new center Kenny Belton, a 6’8 junior transfer from Roanoke, Virginia. Greensboro Day School has a couple of new faces in Johnny Thomas and Travis Leonard. Leonard came over from the Grimsley Whirlies and we have no idea yet on the background of Thomas.

The Page Pirates may be set to make a run at the boys title but they will have to get by the Bengals of GDS to make that dream come true. With the semifinals due up on Tuesday night the Southwest Guilford Cowboys are the 4th team in the mix and probably have the long shot of reaching the finals with Dudley standing in the way of Southwest.

On the girl’s side of things, Northwest Guilford is the defending champ but the Dudley girls have grabbed the number one ranking and they have a 6’5 center that transferred in from of all places, believe it or not, Greensboro Day School. Her name is Valentine and she has already signed with Wake Forest and that is pretty sharpe company.

The Grimsley girls are the only unbeaten team in the ladies bracket and they just might knock off one of the top two seeds(Dudley and Northwest) and reach the finals. Phil Weaver coaches the Lady Whirlies and Weaver has more coaching experience than any other coach in tournament history (boys or girls) including Freddy Johnson.

Stay close to the Greensboro Sports website for continuing coverage of the Pizza Hut Little Four Basketball Tournament. It is the 30th year of this Big event and not to be confused with the Big Four that ran here in the Gate City back in the 70’s. We will be tracing the roots of the Big Four in future GREENSBORO SPORTS REPORTS.
