High School Highlights and Lowlights:Roundball Roundup Part Two

The Eastern Guilford girls and boys are ready to step into the spotlight after building perfect 5-0 conference marks on the 2-A level. The EG girls pounded Southern Guilford 73-47 and the Wildcat boys whipped Southern 72-59. The strong start is nothing new for the Wildcat women but the boys are taking it to a higher plateau. Amber Wall has been setting the standard for the ladies at EG now for several years but she is getting much needed help from Tasha Huntley and Sharree Avent. Brandon Cowan paces the Widcat boys now 11-6 overall to go with the excellent 5-0 conference mark. The EG boys have not put up numbers like this since Terrance and Torry Holt were around.

Eastern Guilford gets the big shout out and Ragsdale is ready for the double clutch as well. The Tigers took two from Southeast Guilford 67-44 girls and 44-42 boys. The girls margin is a bit shocking, a 23 point win over a solid SEG Falcon team gets everybody’s attention in a hurry. The Ragsdale ladies are now rolling at 4-1 in the conference and the boys have also posted an identical 4-1 league mark. The Ragsdale teams will make the playoff picture very intriguing as the season moves into February.

The Northeast Guilford boys rolled over WG 94-50 and the Rams have a rematch coming with Dudley on February 3rd. Uzochukwu, Grooms, and Stokes continue to be the Rams that are getting it done night in, night out. With records of 6-1 and 14-4 the Rams can not let up with the Dudley Panthers in their sights. The lights on Dudley show 7-0 and 14-4 after last week’s win 79-44 over Rockingham County. William Graves is starting to push it big time and fellow senior Robert Johnson is also seeing the need to lead his club. The Dudley girls just keep on quietly and steadily rolling along with records of 7-0 and 17-1. With Valentine, Austin, Little, Kee, Porter, and Terry the girls from Dudley will be hard to beat. Back to the Dudley boys, “Where has Rayshawn Polk been in recent games”? We haven’t seen Polk’s name in the box scores or in the books.

The High Point Andrews boys keep on winning even without injured Kellen Brand and Marcus Gilchrist in the lineup and Friday the Raiders eased past Southwest Guilford 77-73. The Southwest Guilford boys are falling out of playoff contention quickly and they need to be careful. The Andrews boys on the other hand are in good shape with 5-0 and 13-4 on their backs but they still have a rematch with Glenn coming up in a few days.

The Metro 4-A boys with Smith and Page at 6-1 and High Point Central at 5-2 will be the most intresting race to atch in the next few weeks. The HPC girls are tryig to get the monkey off their backs and for the guys it is getting rough for Glenn and Southwest Guilford. Somebody will have to make a move soon or it will be time to cut out the lights when you leave the building.
