High School Highlights and Lowlights:Roundball Roundup Round Two

We saw the first stage of recovery this week for the Glenn Bobcats. The Cats scratched out a 10 point win over High Point Andrews back on Friday night and to make it even more impressive the Cats won it on the Raider’s home court in High Point. The final of 70-60 should be enough to get Glenn back in the hunt. If Eric Wallace and Marshall Moses will get zoned in and be ready to play every night for the rest of the season then Glenn will challenge. Will Wallace and Moses be up to the challenge? Your guess is as good as mine. We will have to wait and see and we know Glenn has a strong supporting cast with Chris Jacobs and Jeff Adams hitting for double-digits on most nights.

So if Glenn is back then what about the Northeast Guilford Rams? They never went anywhere. The Rams have played steady all year long and with a 7-1 conference mark and 15-4 overall the Rams are awaiting their rematch with the Dudley Panthers this Friday night. There are quite a few ifs floating around but what if Sammy Grooms were still at Smith and feeding the ball to Tavarus Alston and Brian Wynn? Any way you break it down Grooms is now with Northeast and he will still be dishing off the ball to Lamont Stokes and Mezie Uzochukwu. The Rams versus Dudley this Friday at Northeast and the Rams have to go to Morehead tonight.(Tuesday)

The Eastern Guilford girls lost their first conference game of the year last Friday dropping a 61-56 decision to Reidsville. The EG boys dropped game two of the Wildcat-Ram doubleheader with Reidsville when EG fell 66-42 . There is tight race brewing on the 2-A scene with EG and Reidsville.

The Southeast Guilford boys took a ten point win over Asheboro 61-51 and now Southeast is back in the boys 3-A race and the Asheboro Blue Comets have some competition coming from the Falcons, Ragsdale and Trinity.
The Bishop McGuiness girls remain the area’s only unbeaten team and the Villians have seen their record improve to 19-0 after Friday’s 63-25 victory over Elkin. The Vilians are 14-0 in 1-A conference play.

We talk about the big races for the conference crowns and the Metro 4-A boys still have the tightest race with Smith, Page, and High Point Central all still in the running for the title. The girls Metro 4-A still shows Grimsley, Northwest Guilford, High Point Central, and Page battling it out for the top spots. The boys race for first place should go down to the wire with the last game of the regular season Friday night February 10th.

I haven’t seen any word on the High School wrestling front this season but I have to believe Ragsdale is still the area’s top team. My wrestling cub reporter Joey Gladson has not checked in from the MAT and we hope he will have some prep grappling news coming our way soon. I did hear that Alternative Championship Wrestling(ACW) is looking to bring a show to Greensboro in early March. The location mentioned has been the East Greensboro Special Events Center(The Bingo Hall) off of East Wendover Avenue at Elwell Street and Phillips Avenue. Stay tuned to this website and to Oldies 93 with Chris Young for more details. Chris Young does his “Obsessed with Wrestling Show” on Wednesday mornings on the Waking Crew with Max McGann.(5:30-10:00am on Oldies 93) We will have more on this and other local events coming your way soon and we will be alerting all local affiliates when any sports news breaks out in our backyard or in your cow pasture.
