Our area lost another team Tuesady night as Eastern Guilford fell in the girls
2-A Regionals in Greenville. The Wildcats went down 71-57 and their season is over for 2005/2006. Tonight the Dudley girls face off against Western Harnett at 7pm in the Greenville Rose HS gym. Both young ladies’ squads have 25-2 records for the year. The Dudley boys, Northeast boys, Northwest girls, and High Point Central girls all play on Thursday night.

Two key high school baseball games on tap today in the nice warm spring-like weather are Northwest at Northeast and Southeast at Western. The Big South Men’s Basketball Tournament is under way and High Point University defeated Radford in round one with former Southwest Guilford Cowboy Landon Quick connecting for 8 points for HPU and for Radford there was Whit Holcomb-Faye from WS Reynolds hitting for 33 and Chris Oliver out of Kernersville Glenn knocking down 16 points. Former Tennessee and Appalachian State coach Buzz Peterson is leading Coastal Carolina out of Conway, South Carolina and the Chanticleers have won 11 games in a row after Tuesday’s round one victory 78-62 over UNC-Asheville. Quite a few local connections.

The ACC Women are almost here and we hope to have at least three correspondants on hand for the Big Tourney. Big Jim Modlin is handling the coverage for the Dusty Dunn Show on AM 1070 WGOS. Jim will hopefully send us some insight on the events surrounding the action at the Greensboro Coliseum. Bruce(call me “The Bull”)Bullington and Doug Cockman will be in attendance and we look for their contributions as well. Jim, Bruce, Doug, and possibly Buddy Bray all out on High Point Road at the same time. We may see a mad rush to the Subway and Waffle House and watch out for Ralph Havis just down the street.

The ACC men are waiting in the wings with Duke at Florida State and Virginia at North Carolina topping tonight’s schedule. The N.C. A&T Aggies have a game that they can win at home this evening in the Corbett Center vs. Howard. The Aggies have a 6-10 MEAC mark and the Bison are 4-12 in the conference. The MEAC tournament will be played next week at the RBC Center in Raleigh. Coming out of Raleigh, N.C. State will close out it’s ACC regular season with a road game at Wake Forest on Saturday.

The Carolina Dynamo signed a nice financial deal with First Horizon Mortgage this week and I wish the Dynamo would make their next move to drop the Carolina and become the “Greensboro Dynamo” again.
