Got the word today that Alan Ashkinazy’s Grimsley baseball team has moved to 14-5 on the season and they are starting to feel the full effects of the young men that joined the Whirlies this year from the Southeast Guilford Falcon program. Clint Moore now has a 5-1 pitching mark on the mound and Lester Rivenbark is seeing the pop return to his bat and Dusty Shutt is in the groove and the long ball has come back home to the young men from Southeast and the Whirlies are the benefactors.

Grimsley showed signs of being strong all year long and now they are settling in for a solid end of the regular season run. Speaking of runs, Ragsdale has run off a 17-1 record and the Tigers are still the number one team in the Triad. We need to get another poll going, this one for baseball and it should be a tough poll to create. Ragsdale is the best, but Glenn is still making noise, and Western Guilford has had their moments, and Grimsley is on the move, and Southeast just beat Western, and Northwest is not out of it yet, and Northeast is trying to lock down that .500 record. We need to roll the poll and we will be doing it soon and until then just read between the lines.

The Eastern Guilford basketball fires are still burning. Natasha Huntley will be back next season for the girls and she has put together three straight years of 16.9 PPG as a Freshman, 20.6 PPG as a Soph., and 15.1 PPG as a Junior. There have been 3 consecutive conference titles for the EG girls and there may be more. Future Amber Walls and Sharee Avents are on the way. Jeremiah Jenkins’ sister Miranda Jenkins was a 7th grade starter on the EG Middle School team that went 13-0 and Mirnada scored 32 points in an AAU hoops contest up in Mt. Airy. Miranda Jenkins another name to watch from Eastern Guilford. The boys EG hoops coach Greg Topper resigned this week for personal reasons.

The Greensboro Grasshoppers are back in town Saturday so plan your weekend around the Hoppers, and we’ll see you at the ballparks.
