Van Houten Has Hopper Fans Shoutin’

Jeff Van Houten has the Greensboro Grasshopper fans shouting after his fifth home run in the past 3 days. Van Houten hit one Saturday night, two more on Sunday afternoon and then two more on Monday during the Hoppers day game victory over the Hickory Crawdads. The Hoppers swept the Crawdads in a three game series for their second series sweep of the early season.

The Hoppers finished off the Crawdads on Monday with an 11-6 win. The Grasshoppers improved to 10-8 on the year after going 0-4 on the road trip in Lakewood, New Jersey. The Hoppers seem to have it together again especially at home where they have found a way to continually hit the ball out of the stadium at First Horizon Park.

The Hoppers are hoping their hitting stays hot as they take to the road for a three-game trip that beigns up in West Virginia against the Power on Tuesday. After the road stint the Hoppers return home for another 3 game slate against West Virginia that gets under on Friday April 28.

You have to hope that the Hoppers starting pitching will come around like their hitting has returned after a short break and that the Grasshoppers will get get some more breaks that will keep them in the win column while up in West Virginia.

Look for Daniel Barone to get another start against the Power and Chris Volstad should also get another start while the Hoppers are on road. Volstad pitched efficiently in his last call on Saturday night April 22 to go 3-0 and good things should be coming his way. Win Hoppers win, and we will see you again at home on Friday of this week.
