For ACC Tournament: “There’s no place like home”

Officials from the Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Wednesday that Greensboro will continue to be a major player in staging the conference’s post season men’s and women’s basketball tournaments for years to come. As the league wrapped up its annual spring meetings in Florida, the ACC announced its future sites for the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments as well as the ACC Baseball Tournament. The men’s tournament will return to the Gate City in 2010 for a two year run before heading south for the 2012 tournament in Atlanta. From 2013 through 2015, Greensboro will again play host to the men’s tournament. As far as the ladies’ event is concerned, Greensboro will continue to be that tournament’s host through 2015. The league can exercise an option to move the tournament for one year between 2010-2015. If that option is used, Greensboro will automatically be awarded the 2016 Tournament. It is doubtful that the ACC would use that option as the women’s tournament has enjoyed new levels of success since beginning its current Greensboro run back in 2000.
The Gate City was also in the running to host the ACC Baseball Tournament at First Horizon Park in Downtown Greensboro but will not be in the mix, at least not until after 2009. Speaking of First Horizon Park….Don’t forget about Friday Night Fireworks, tonight after the Hoppers take on Kannapolis.

  1. What is so great about the women tournament, they close off half of the coliseum, UCONN and TENNESSE women both play before 17,000 plus every home game, until they open it up all the way they are not showing me very much.
