The Volleyball Master Moves From Page To Grimsley, Page At Grimsley Friday, and We Have Your HS Football Polls

*****Before we get started, Doug Cockman informs me that Norm Chow says he would consider the NC State job if Chuck Amato gets the boot. Chow says that NC State and Arizona State are the only two head football jobs he would look at. Chow was at Southern Cal, but according to the USC Blogs they don’t want him back there. I saw the piece this week on the PackPride site and when DC sent it my way I knew it was the same article because of the look on Chow’s face in his photo.*****(Herb Sendek is at Arizona State, Very Interesting……)

Glenn Cashion is the new Volleyball coach at Grimsley. Cashion was the old coach at Page. Cashion is a Volleyball master and he is the most progressive coach we have in the area. He had 12 Junior Olympic players at Page and even though he left them all over in the Pirates Mac Morris Gym, Grimsley has already beaten Page twice this season. Cashion tells me that Northwest and North Forsyth are the teams he has to beat on a consistant basis to win the Metro 4-A.

Cashion is money in the bank. He is young enough to relate to the players and he can still play the game himself. Cashion knows Volleyball better than any other coach we have in the Triad. He coaches school ball and also works with the Junior Olympic teams that train out at the Sportsplex on 16th Street. I remember Cashion playing pickup Volleyball at his house over off of West Market near the old Hodgin Oil company and across the street from Big Al Caffey(of IH Caffey fame) way back in the late ’80’s.

Cashion is the Man and he can turn out some Super Volleyball players so watch for the movement at Grimsley HS. Glenn’s dad is Sonny Cashion who used to help coach baseball at Guilford College and he was the Manager of Sonny’s Funnies semipro baseball team for many years. Sonny’s health is not good now, he has bone cancer but he is tough and he will bounce back. Glenn’s mom is City Councilmember Kay Cashion known for Cashion’s Home Furnishings. Ms. Cashion is Democrat but we won’t hold that against her because Ogi Overman needs all the help he can muster.

Page at Grimsley on Friday night in Jamieson Stadium by the Brooks Middle School will run into the evening. I love using all those prepositions in the same sentence.(At, on, in, by, into) My grammar school English teachers would be proud to know that I have excelled to this level. The football game kicks off at 7:30 and we will have the AM 950 WPET broadcast team there with Jim Modlin, Jimmy Fulmer, and Paul Lambeth. This should be a Fed Ex ground game with one squad running the ball and the other team trying to run the ball.

The Lucky 13 is back again and here it is. LUCKY 13
