Week # 8 Rolls Around for HS Football and Here are Your Polls

It’s already week number 8 for many of our High School football teams and the conference races are beginning to heat up. I visited Dudley HS this week and talked briefly with assistant coach Ken Page. Page was at Page HS for many, many years, and now he helps with the Dudley defense. KP is a great coach and an outstanding person and I have much respect for that man. Ken Page is a veteran coach and he paints the fields before the games and his recent art work can also be seen on the refurbished Dudley press box. This man is the type of person the kids should look up to and he has put in countless hours serving the Guilford County Schools. Again the art work KP does on the football field and around the different campuses is unbelievable.

Lucky 13 Poll

#1) Grimsley(The Whirlies punished Page in the 4th quarter by running the ball down the Pirates throats and with the Power running of Senior Lionel Shoffner Grimsley goes to 6-0 after the 21-10 win. This week the Whirlies travel to face 4-3 North Forsyth)

#2) Eastern Randolph(The Wildcats are the local leader in the 3-A ranks and with their big 38-7 victory over Ragsdale the Cats are 7-0 and will be off this week. ER is currently the top-ranked 3-A team in the state)

#3) Thomasville(The Bulldogs are #1 in the N&R poll and number one in the NC 1-A polls but they check in at #3 here at GBS.C{Greensborosports.com} The Dogs are 7-0 after they demolished East Montgomery 49-0 last week and this Friday they travel to meet 2-4 West Montgomery)

#4) Dudley(The Panthers will host the Panthers this week as Morehead comes a calling to Tarpley Stadium. Dudley is 6-1 after burying Bartlett Yancey 42-7 and the Panthers have big dates coming up with Northeast and Western Alamance in the near future)

#5) Reidsville(The Rams beat the George Washington Danville Eagles 35-34 in what had to be the game of the week in a NC-VA battle to the end. This was the first loss of the year for GW and it was one of those games where the last team to have the ball wins. Ray Ray Butchee had a trey{3TD’s} for the 5-1 Rams of Reidsville who host West Stokes this Friday)

#6) Burlington Cummings(The 5-1 Cavaliers were off last week and this week they travel to face off with Orange County HS)

#7) Asheboro(The Blue Comets moved to 6-0 with their 35-7 romp over Southwestern Randolph and this week they will have some very stiff competition when they visit Southeast Guilford to take on the 5-1 SEG Falcons. This game will tell us who will be left to battle Eastern Randolph for the Mid-Piedmont 3-A conference title. The loser will fall into a lower tier, and be set to call it a year, with a spear in their rear)

#8) Northeast Guilford(The Rams are picking up steam after their 42-14 blowout win over Southern Alamance and now they have a season-changing game on tap this week at Western Alamance. This is a BIG ONE. The NEG Rams are 5-1 and the WA Warriors are 6-1. Last year’s regular season game between these guys was won by NEG in OT at NEG and then WA won the playoff game at NEG as the two faced off again when the money was on the line in November)

#9) Western Alamance(Hal Capps has a much different looking team in 2006 and he has led his troops to the state title game in the 2 previous seasons{2004/2005})

#10) Southeast Guilford(The Falcons crushed a good Trinity team 38-6 behind Dion Bratcher’s running{229 yds.-2TD’s and over 1,000 yds. and 12 TD’s season} and now at 2-0,5-1 they meet their biggest challenge of the year in Asheboro at Home{Forest Oaks} this Friday night. Can Coach Fritz and his Falcons stop the unbeaten Blue Comets? If Asheboro stops Dion Bratcher Comets win, if not Southeast faces ER for the championship)

#11) Glenn(The Bobcats are moving again at 4-2 after killing Atkins 62-7 on the last Friday in September. Big game tonight{Thursday} with Glenn at 4-2 High Point Andrews. This will be a great way to start the conference Wars)

#12) High Point Andrews(Coach Derek Anderson better have his Raiders ready for the Dickie Cline-coached Glenn Bobcats in this huge ball game at Simeon Stadium)

#13) BWHS(Bye Week University had such a great week beating UNC 51-48 in Chapel-Hill so we had to give a shout-out to their High School as well. Go Bye Week High School Bison and the best to your coach Craig Gill. The Bye Week Bison our featured team of the week, and if you think I’m crazy, you’re wrong. I am Andrew)

GUILFORD GREAT EIGHT
#1) GRIMSLEY
#2) DUDLEY
#3) NEG
#4) SEG
#5) SWG
#6) HP ANDREWS
#7) HP CENTRAL
#8) PAGE
(others not receiving votes this week:Ragsdale, SG, Smith, EG, WG, NWG)

*****Ric Flair was seen at UCNG watching his daughter play Volleyball for the Appalachian State Mountaineers last weekend. There was a Big Tournament in town and the Nature Boy was taking in all the action. Ric has been very supportive of his children and their athletic endeavors*****
