It’s the End of the School as We know It/HS Football Polls

EGHS is GONE.  Eastern Guilford High School is History.  EGHS burned down on Wednesday and it is a sad day for Wildcat sports.  The football players that walked the Halls of EGHS included Torry Holt, Terrance Holt, Scott Youmans, Murray Youmans, Bobby Hedrick, and Elijah Marshall.  Both Holts and Marshall played for NC State, Scott Youmans for Duke, Murray Youmans for ECU and Duke, and Bobby Hedrick played on 2 NAIA National Championship squads for Jerry Tolley at ELON.  The most successful football coach at EGHS was Tommy Grayson and the assistant football coach that people talked about was Eddie “Clinchum” Flinchum.  Former Greensboro Prowler Jason Gibson recently coached at Eastern.  Sad but true, “It’s the End of the School as We know It”.

                           LUCKY 13

#1) Grimsley(The Whirlies took care of Northwest Guilford 44-20 and at 10-0 the area’s top team has a great chance to finish at 11-0 with East Forsyth{3-6} due up next at East on Friday.  Grimsley has a super running game and it will be fun to see how deep the Whirlies can go in the playoffs which get under way next week)

#2) Thomasville(The Bulldogs need to move up to 3-A and get in the conference with HP Andrews and the other Piedmont Triad 3-A teams or join Asheboro, ER, SEG, and Ragsdale in the Mid-Piedmont 3-A.  The ‘Dogs will be 11-0 after Friday’s game and they won’t see any competition until the 1-AA title game)

#3) Asheboro(The Blue Comets keep it coming now up to 5-0/10-0 and Ragsdale gets the chance to try to knock off A’boro and spoil the Comets season this Friday down across the street from the Prison and the State Zoo.  The Tigers are going to the Zoo and some ER fans call Ashboro’s field the A’hole but I won’t go that far)

#4) Burlington Cummings(The Cavaliers are ready to close out their season at 10-1 hosting Graham this Friday)

#5) Western Alamance(The Warriors defeated Dudley 35-21 to win the Triad 3-A and at 5-0/10-1 they have this week off so I guess coach Hal Capps is at his Beach House enjoying some frosty waves as Spicolli used to say)

#6) Eastern Randolph(The Wildcats ate the Falcons and ruined Southeast Guilford’s chances for a #2 finish in the Mid-Piedmont 3-A. After the 34-14 win over SEG, ER hosts Trinity on Friday and this is not the same Trinity from ECW wrestling.  ER is 4-1/9-1 and Trinity is 2-3/5-4)

#7) Reidsville(The Rams plastered Southern Guilford 33-0 in the rain last Friday at SG’s C.K. Siler Stadium and at 4-0/9-1 they own the North Sate 2-A conference and will host #2 McMichael on Friday and it might be close for about 3 minutes)

#8) Dudley(The Panthers will look to finish strong at home against Western Guilford on Friday night and it shouldn’t take long for Dudley to get over the loss to Western Alamance.  The Panthers now stand at 4-1/8-2 and WG is 1-4/2-8)

#9) Southeast Guilford(The Falcons are now stranded at 3-2/7-3 after the loss to ER and SEG will close out the regular season at home vs. 1-4/2-8 Randleman on Friday night)

#10) High Point Andrews(The Raiders have been following the Right Wing leadership of the San Quentin Quayle all season and it looks like SQ Quayle’s cousin Dan is coming into town for the Parkland game on Friday.  DQ will be sticking around for the Barnes and Coble luncheon on Saturday.  Andrews is 3-1/7-3 and they still have an outside shot to tie for the conference lead)

#11) Northeast Guilford(The Rams gobbled up Rockingham County something like 63-21 and now will close out things at Bartlett Yancey with a win on Friday. NEG 2-3/6-4 and BYHS is 0-5/2-8)

#12) Glenn(The Bobcats are 2-2/6-4 and will host the 1-3/5-5 Southwest Guilford Cowboys on Friday)

#13) Page(The Pirates played their game in the MUD last Friday and beat the slop out of Smith 40-0.  This week 4-1/5-4 Page travels to meet 1-4/1-9 Northwest Guilford)

                           GUILFORD GREAT EIGHT

#1) GRIMSLEY

#2) DUDLEY

#3) SEG

#4) HP ANDREWS

#5) NEG

#6) PAGE

#7) RAGSDALE

#8) SWG       (others not receiving votes this week: HPC,EG, SG,WG,NWG, Smith)

Be sure to support the Eastern Guilford Widcats as they travel to face Southern Guilford on Friday night. With the fire on Wednesday at EGHS, “It’s the End of the School as We Know It”.  Their building is GONE and their School is HISTORY.                                                                  Â
