Last Call:HS Football Poll “Final Five”

This is our last High School football poll of the year.  Next week we will begin our boys and girls Lucky 13 HS Basketball Polls.  There are several local football playoff games this Friday and tons of Guilford County basketball games on the same night.

The Game of the Week will be down in Charlotte on Saturday night with (14-0) Charlotte Independence playing Matthews Butler (12-2) at Memorial Stadium.  Independence has won something like 105 consecutive games but M Butler took CI to double overtime in their regular season meeting.  One of our readers Ron Davidson and his son were at that game.

                   LUCKY 13’s Final Five

#1) Thomasville(Last week ripped Cherryville 35-6, now 14-0 and this week will host 10-4 Mount Airy who has a full backfield with Aunt Bea, Helen, Thelma Lou, and Otis)

#2) Burlington Cummings(Last week bombed Black Mountain 51-14, now 13-1 and will host 13-1 Reidsville on Friday.  This will be the top game in the Triad with Reidsville’s only loss coming against Cummings during the regular season.  The only team to beat BC?  The Dudley Panthers in the 2nd game of the year)

#3) Reidsville(Last week slid past Newton-Conover 30-29, and now Friday the Rams will be at Cummings and this should be an old fashioned shoot- out and don’t tell Brad Krantz and Britt Whittmire who work at a small radio station in Graham, they might come in trying to enforce Gun Control)

#4) Eastern Randolph(Last week the Widcats got past our Southeast Guilford Falcons 24-19, and now at 13-1, this week the ‘Cats will take on Sam Story’s 9-5 Burlington Williams Bulldogs.  It will be raining ‘Cats and ‘Dogs in Ramseur on Football Friday evening)

#5) Western Alamance(Last week the Warriors led by their QB, “Little Britt”(Soph. Sensation Donald Britt), pulled one out of the fire by coming back to beat Rocky Mount 41-37.  WA is now 13-1 and will host cross-county rival Eastern Alamance 11-3 on Friday and be sure to tell Byron Tucker{of 920 AM} to have his fast-talking shoes on)

MEN’s HOOPS GOES OT:Congrats to Guilford College who topped Greensboro College 78-74 behind Jordan Snipes 30 points on Wednesday night at the Greensboro Coliseum. (Again that’s the Quakers over the Pride as if you needed to be reminded).
