Friday night our WPET AM950 broadcast game will be Northeast versus Eastern Guilford at UNCG and we will have updates on Grimsley at Northwest.

                          Boys Hoops Poll

#1) Greensboro Day School(The 8-0 Johnny Thomas-led Bengals have been off this week for exams and they are back in action Friday at North Raleigh Christian)

#2) Dudley(The Panther boys at 4-0 have also been quiet this week but they face Bartlett Yancey on Friday.  Belton and Chavis are the Dudley Doctors)

#3) High Point Central(The Bison are going to be hard to stop in the Metro 4-A but they might just find North Forsyth up to the challenge.  Black Bison at 4-1, only loss a close one to Dudley and are led by Jermaine Armstrong)

#4) Northeast Guilford(The Rams and their local hero Mezie Uzochukwu are now 7-0 and they face EG on Friday.  Last outing 20 points and 11 rebounds for Uza in win over Western)

#5) Ragsdale(The Tigers are 8-1 after Wednesday night’s win over Eastern Randolph and are led by Jay Canty)

#6) Smith(The Eagles are 3-2 after Wednesday’s loss to George Washington Danville and SHS is led by Avery Hardy.  The Eagles host the Page Pirates on Friday)

#7) High Point Andrews(The Raiders dropped a tough one, 64-60, to unbeaten Trinity on Wednesday and at 2-2, HPA could be making some moves up in the polls soon)

#8) Grimsley(The Whirlies fell hard to High Point Central but they have a chance at Metro 4-A redemption on Friday at Northwest and GHS led by Marlon Smith must not fall far below .500{currently 3-4} or they could be in big trouble)

                     Girls Hoops Poll

#1) Grimsley( I have watched this team play so  many games this year I feel like I should own part of the team.  At 8-0 there’s no place to go but up and they will face a very solid Northwest team at NWG on Friday and Trumae Lucas and her WhirlieGirl teammates will need to be up to overcome the Vikings coached by Darlene Joyner)

#2) Dudley(Sierra Little’s senior season could be a big one for the 4-1 Panthers, fresh off a victory over Rockingham County on Tuesday)

#3) Page(The Pirates led Alexis Neal buried East Forsyth 61-32 on Tuesday and at 7-0, they should be 8-0 after Friday’s game at winless Smith)

#4) Northeast Guilford(The Rams and their star Mercedes King have beaten Northwest and Southwest in the past week and just brushed off Western 40-21 on Tuesday behind MK’S 20 points and 8 boards to improve to 4-2 on the year.  Only NEG losses were to Grimsley and Page)

#5) Northwest Guilford(Asha Hardaway leads the Vikings who just knocked off the North Forsyth Vikings on Tuesday 65-29 behind 23 from Hardaway and now NWG will host #1 Grimsley on Friday)

#6) Ragsdale(The Tigers fell to 6-3 after Wednesday’s loss to Trinity.  Danielle Duncan has been the top Tiger so far this season)

#7) High Point Central(The Bison are 5-2 and still trying to recover from the beat-down they took at Grimsley on Tuesday.  Allison Spivey will be the go-to girl this year and look for the entire HPC Carter-coached club to be strong around playoff time)

#8) Southwest Guilford(The SWG Cowgirls are 4-2 and Paris Best is their best player.  We welcome SWG to our poll for the first time this year as they just defeated Asheboro 63-44 on Tuesday)

I have been to every Grimsley girls game and have watched almost all of their practices and this is the best girls team I have seen in a while. The crazy thing is most of them are only juniors. This will be the top local team for at least two years. The GHS boys need to slow down and get into their offense and let Smith shoot more three point shots and the boys also need to get stronger under the bucket.

i do agree with you Tom this Girls team is the best i seen so far…. .They have talent on this team and they do listen to their coaches…… That will get u places…
They create turnovers and they look to get each other involved in their offense….
They are the best passing team i seen so far… They should be crown champs this yr….
The boys do need to slow it down and get into their offense set and look to take good shots and watch their turnovers and we have to be a force on those boards…
We need to learn to boxout and be more aggressive and not make crazy fouls..
If this team learn to get everyone involved this can be a good team..
Manley can be a true factor in each and every game….. if he avoids getting tinto foul trouble early.. He has come along good this yr with leading the team in blocks and i do beleive he should be leading the lead in blocks..
Marlan Smith is playing good so far……. Just has to be pateint and those shots will come….. He is leading his team in scoring almost 18 pts agame…. We need everyone to do their part in helping this team be in every game….
I do beleive in the Whirlies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I commented a few weeks ago here that the Grimsley girls were a Slam Dunk to take it all and now I am becoming worried about the Page girls. Page looks like they are getting their game together and they are unbeaten just like Grimsley. Dudley stole one of the Page players a few years ago when they got Montague Austin and Page may get a crack at Dudley in the Little Four. Grimsley needs to watch out for Page but I still feel GHS will be OK after the beating they put on High Point Central. Andy what do you think?

  • Andy said,

The Grimsley girls will do just fine. Page will be ready for the WhirlieGirls but GHS looks to have too much depth. Grimsley is still the team to beat in local girls HS hoops. Thanks for the comment Jane.

Coach Carter at HPC will have his girls ready to play with anyone in March they are a work in progress and will be ready by tournament time.
