Guilford Great Eight Basketball Polls

Boys Hoops: #1)Greensboro Day School(13-1, beat Burlington Williams 79-73 on Weds.)

#2)High Point Central(11-1, beat East Forsyth 70-58 last night)

#3)Dudley(10-2, beat Morehead 45-42 Weds., tight game Dudley had to win on a last second shot)

#4)Ragsdale(13-2, lost to unbeaten Trinity  64-60 Tuesday)

#5)Northeast Guilford(12-2, beat Western Alamance 65-49 last night)

#6)Smith(5-8/2-1 Metro, beat Grimsley Weds. and I was at this game and Seth Hawkins paced the Golden Eagles with 27, while David DuPont scored 22 for Grimsley and Dupont was so hot in the second half that they needed to throw a bucket of water on him.  I mean this kid was on fire.  Credit Reggie Peace’s Golden Eagles of Smith for hitting their free throws down the stretch and Avery Hardy was strong for Smith around the basket)

#7)SWG(8-7, the Cowboys took 4th at the Little Four Tournament and I have no scores to report on them this week)

#8)Grimsley(6-7, the Whirlies lost to Smith 64-57 and will have to stir up the mustard on Friday night when they host the Page Pirates at historic Bob Sawyer Gym.  Dupont has been hot, Keith Manley will need to play big in the lane, Marlan Smith has to hit his free throws{has been missing the first and hitting the second and you can’t do that on one-and-ones}, and Christian Tonkins must not foul out or GHS is in trouble)

Girls Hoops: #1)Page(12-1, the Pirates rolled over North Forsyth on Weds. 62-25, after winning the Little Four title they have a re-match with LF semifinal foe Grimsley on Friday night)

#2)Grimsley(10-1, WhirlieGirls defeated Smith 40-29 last night in a game we thought was scheduled for Tuesday and now GHS takes on Page Friday at BS Gym)

#3)Dudley(9-2, crushed Morehead 83-34 on Weds.)

#4)Northwest Guilford(10-4, the Vikings beat the Austrailian National Travel Team 52-38 last night)

#5)Ragsdale(11-3, the Tigers stopped Trinity 56-30 back on Tuesday)

#6)Northeast Guilford(9-5, NEG demolished Western Alamance 62-18 on Weds. and are 2-0 in the Triad 3-A conference)

#7)High Point Central(6-6, the Bison bested East Forsyth 76-49 last night and look set to make a January run)

#8)Southwest Guilford(8-5, SWG played well in the Little Four and Paris Best continues to lead the Cowgirls)

  1. Grimsley will be ready for to handle the pressure….. The Girls will be ready trust me on that……. Trumae Lucas will have a big game along with the rest of the Whirlies we need a real big game from Nicole as well..
The boys will be ready they beat Page Boys last Thurs at the Little Four in a thriller overtime game…
Look for David Dupot to have a good game he had 22 pts in the Lost to Smith on Wed night…. Look for Senior Guard Marlan Smith to have another good game against Page in which he scored the last time they played which was 19pts ……. Dont forget the man in the middle Keith Manley..
So the Whirlies will take two games in the Bob Sawyer Gym///////////
Lets get ready to rock and roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Please explain how HP Central boys can be ranked #2 in the whole state of NC in the 4A division, yet on your poll they are ranked #2 in Guilford county, just ckeck NC preps .comfor the rankings, it must be the same way you have no explanation for the 5th year seniors at GDS.

  3. Give any coach in Greensboro their players for a fifth year and they will become a great coach like Coach Johnson at GDS. What a joke that someone would think it was all great coaching and the other coaches need to work harder. Give any coach in Greensboro the GDS regular season schedule and watch their records balloon too. Nothing against GDS or Coach Johnson, they are just taking advantage of the rules for independent schools. Their actions are against the spirit of the rules but they are within the rules.

  4. Do the math, Greensboro Day beat Dudley, Dudley beat HP Central, Dudley and GDS are both better than HPC and HPC only beat a 5-9 Smith team 64-60 on Friday night. One word for HP Central, “OVER-RATED”. GDS is a team we can all be proud of because it carries our name well. We are “GREENSBORO” Day School.

  5. HPC just played Mt.Zion last week and has Oak Hill next week I think they will play anybody anywhere, plus Dudley earlier this year and the very hard conference they play in, I do not think they are overrated, you will not see any home schools on there schedule.

  6. Love the great eight polls. However you have the SWG Girls record wrong. They are 8-5. You have shown them with 7 loses in previous polls. I think you have them mixed up with the boys team. The girls are very soild.

  7. Southwest Guilford girls now 8-5 after Friday night’s 55-49 win over Glenn. I have to rely on News and Record updates and sometimes they are a bit fuzzy. Thanks for following the Polls.
