RIP Bam Bam Bigelow and Bruce Mitchell

Bam Bam Bigelow, one of the top professional wrestlers of the late 80’s through the mid-90’s died at age 45 last Friday.  Many who follow the sports entertainment industry are saying that another wrestler has died young, but that is not really true.

Scotty Bigelow was lucky to reach the age of 45 and for wrestlers that are leaving early he got to experience a pretty good ride.  In comparison to other wrestlers that are checking out due to the rugged and hard laced lifestyle, Bigelow died an old man.

Professional wrestling is rough way of life and tough way to end up dead.  Bigelow was a very active and agile man in the ring and he could do things that smaller guys like Shane Douglas could only dream of doing.  Bam Bam was the king of body art or what some of the uneducated and non-intelligentae call tatoos.  Bigelow could do a cartwheel that would put a Carolina Panther cheerleader to shame.  This Big Man from Asbury Park, New Jersey was one of the greatest of all time when it comes to throwing himself into his work.

Bigelow is gone but his memory will live on and we will remember his Wrestlemania match with Lawrence Taylor for many years to come.  Bruce Mithcell of the Pro Wrestling Torch is not dead yet, but I was reading at www.yahoo.com the other day and some Torch reports were flying around that Mitchell was sick and close to his death-bed.  There’s nothing wrong with Bruce that another Teacher’s Workday won’t cure.

Don’t have pity on poor ‘ole Bruce because he and his manager, John Hitchcock, will be headlining the show in Seagrove down below Asheboro in early February.  Harley Race, Ricky Morton, Nikita Koloff, Ivan Koloff, Tim Blaze, Chris Cruise, and other notables will be there but Mitch and Hitch will be the main attractions.

In closing as we let Bruce get some rest in peace before his next school day and let Bam Bam study his flaming temples one more time, we have to ask the question, Who will be the next Bam Bam Bigelow?  Not Bam Bam Coalson, he’s AWOL.  The people’s choice would be Cecil Carr.  Carr has been training out behind the Harris Teeter at Guilford College and if he can keep from getting beaten within inches of his life by those Guilford College football players with the brass knuckles, then Cecil Carr is “The Man”.  We won’t have to say RIP for “C”, because he is the man everybody wants to be.

Watch out for Cecil Carr and his butcher’s block and tackle when Monday Night Raw comes to the Greensboro Coliseum in 2007.

  1. Bruce still writes for the Pro Wrestling Torch and I try to interview him for the web site every month or so. You will hear Bruce again here at greensborosports.com soon. He is very knowledgeable and brings us many good stories and inside bits of news on wrestling and MMA. He is also a HUGE Duke Blue Devil fan and lifetime supporter of the DUKE Lacrosse team.
