Guilford Great Eight Basketball Polls

Boy’s Hoops Poll:1)Greensboro Day School(20-1, beat Charlotte Christian last Saturday in Charlotte 56-52 and the game was so BIG that Charlotte Christian School students camped outside in tents for weeks to be sure they could get tickets and get into the game.  At home versus Christ School on Friday at 7pm)

#2)High Point Central(16-2, defeated Grimsley on Tuesday 68-47 with Jermaine Armstrong and Chris Ealey leading the way.  Bison will host Northwest Guilford on Friday)

#3)Northeast Guilford(15-3, the Rams dropped a tough one to Bartlett Yancey on Wednesday 60-59 as Mezie Uzochukwu had 34 points but he could have really used some help.  NEG will be at Western Alamance on Friday.  The Rams have one conference loss and Dudley has two.  The greatest player to ever play for BY? Sleepy Taylor back in he 70’s)

#4)Ragsdale(17-2, the Tigers knocked off Eastern Randolph 66-50 back on Tuesday and now get ready for “The Game”, when unbeaten Trinity at 19-0 comes to Jamestown on Friday night.  Jay Canty and company will need to have their Biggest game ever to take over the confernce and de-throne the Trinity Bulldogs)

#5)Dudley(The Panthers{15-4} suffered a defeat at the hands of Rockingham County last Friday night, then they turned back Burlington Cummings on Saturday evening at Dudley, they won out over Bartlett Yancey on Tuesday by 10, and then ran past Western Guilford 86-59 on Wednesday night.  Dudley will be at Morehead this Friday and DHS only beat MHS by 3 in their first meeting in Greensboro)

#6)High Point Andrews(10-5, got a victory over Page 60-49 on Tuesday and now travel to Kernersville Glenn on Friday.  Craig Brooks has been the man for the Red Raiders)

#7)Grimsley(9-9, beat Northwest Guilford, lost to High Point Central, and then got past Eastern Guilford Wednesday night 88-76.  Marlan Smith, Keith Manely, and Christian Tonkins have kept the Whirlies at .500.  The Whirlies travel to East Forsyth on Friday)

#8)Smith(7-11, I am still waiting for these guys to pull off a big upset and it might come against High Point Central.  Smith lost 45-42 to Page last Friday and I have not heard a thing about them since then.  The Golden Eagles will take their 4-3 conference mark to North Forsyth on Friday)

Girl’s Hoops Poll:#1)Grimsley(18-1, 8-0.  Rolled over High Point Central 65-33 Tuesday after last Friday’s win over NWG and now take it on the road to East Forsyth on Friday.  Fields, Hargraves, Alston, and Lucas looking tough for The WhirlieGirls)

#2)Page(14-3, the Pirates clipped High Point Andrews 54-48 on Tuesday after beating Smith 49-40 last Friday.  Brittany Banks had 17 and Jasmine Gill 15 in the win over HPA.  The Pirate ship will be idle this Friday)

#3)Ragsdale(15-4, the Tigers dropped a tough game to Eastern Randolph on Tuesday 83-80 in double overtime and it looks like the Wildcats will take the conference, but Ragsdale will be back in action on Friday at home vs. Trinity)

#4)Northeast Guilford(14-4, the Rams left Bartlett Yancey in the dust or the wind on Wednesday taking the Bucs 70-21.  Mercedes King led NEG again with 22 points and 13 boards, while JT Stevens and Dee Murray had 11 and Shelley Reese came home with 10.  NEG is at Western Alamance on Friday)

#5)Dudley(14-4, beat Western Guilford 65-41 on Wednesday night, plus crushed BY 51-23 on Tuesday, and popped Rockingham County’s bubble last Friday night 52-41.  The Panthers say they are ready to make their annual end-of-the-season run.  They visit Morehead this Friday night)

#6)Northwest Guilford(13-6, defeated North Forsyth 54-32 on Monday night after falling to Grimsley last Friday.  Asha Hardaway is the girl and NWG will be at High Point Central on Friday night and HPC coach Kenny Carter is just about ready to blow his top according to the men doing the talking out back behind CULLER’S STORE on English Street in HP)

#7)High Point Andrews(11-5, 4-0 in conference.  Defeated Southwest Guilford 63-53 last Friday and then dropped a heartbreaker to Page 54-48 on Tuesday and now face the Bobcats at Glenn this Friday)

#8)Southwest Guilford(13-7, lost to Reidsville 64-60 on Wednesday.  The Cowgirls led by 5 points 46-41 after 3 quarters and then got out-scored 23-14 in the 4th to lose by four.  Will be at Carver on Friday to meet the Yellowjackets)

  4. I am a big whirlies fan and the boys and girls are very exciting to watch. I attend almost all thier games that’s in the area. each team has alot of potential on thier team with lucas,fields,hargraves,and alston leading the way and marlin smith, kieth manley, and david dupont but i want to bring something to your attention have anyone noticed marlan smith isn’t in the line-up? if you seen this kid you would know that he kan flat out play. is he and corbet having problems? thier is no way in hell this kid should be the 6th man for the whirlies, it gonna hurt the 9-9 whirlies in the long run MARK MY WORD!!!!!!!!!!!
