The Guilford Great Eight Basketball Polls

The regular season will come to a close this weekend and several teams are still fighting for tournament position.

Boys Poll:#1)Greensboro Day School(25-1, defeated First Assembly 76-39 on Saturday after knocking off High Point Wesleyan on Friday and now travel to take on very tough Christ School up in Asheville this Friday night with Westchester and HP Wesleyan due up next week)

#2)High Point Central(21-2, might be getting close to a school record for wins after Tuesday’s 77-56 “W” over Page.  The Pirates led by 3 at the half and then the Bison popped Page hard in the second stanza out-scoring the Pirates 44-20.  Still no complete word on Jermanine Armstrong being AWOL although he still played in the game last week against  East Forsyth.  HPC will be at North Forsyth on Friday night)

#3)Northeast Guilford(19-4, The Rams won out over Rockingham County 51-38 on Tuesday after falling to Dudley last Friday night 70-69.  NEG will try to avenge an earlier loss to Bartlett Yancey at home on Friday night to close out the regular season)

#4)Dudley(17-4, The Panthers destroyed Western Alamance 103-32 on Tuesday and coupled with their huge win over NEG at home last Friday the DP team is back in the hunt.  Josh Chavis has been a real team leader and Marcus Heath is ready to add to the Panther punch.  Dudley is home to face Western Guilford on Friday night)

#5)Ragsdale(18-4, defeated Southwestern Randolph last Friday and now face Asheboro in Jamestown this Friday and the Comets beat the Tigers pretty bad last time out)

#6)High Point Andrews(15-7/9-0, the Raiders slipped past Carver 55-51 on Wednesday after a 63-62 win over Southwest Guilford on Tuesday and now HPA closes out the regular season at  home Friday vs. Parkland)

#7)Grimsley(11-11, the Whirlies have lost 2 in a row but still are at .500 on the season.  Grimsley, Page, Smith, and Northwest all have 5 conference wins and the Metro 4-A tournament will have some tough pairings after HPC.  Grimsley is off on Friday)

#8)Page(9-14, the best team among the previous mentioned Metro clubs, having beaten Grimsley and Smith twice, the Pirates could be a contender in the tournament with the addition of second semester player A. J. Finney who had 10 points in the Pirates 77-56 loss to HP Central on Tuesday.  Page Pirates home versus Northwest Guilford this Friday. 

Girls Poll:#1)Grimsley(23-1, the WhirlieGirls rolled 70-21 over North Forsyth on Tuesday and will have Friday night off after closing out the conference wars at 12-0.  Nicole Hargraves is really looking strong in the middle as the season progresses)

#2)Page(17-5, lost 52-51 to High Point Central on Tuesday after falling 51-41 to Grimsley.  Very big game at home agaisnt NWG this Friday)

#3)Ragsdale(18-4, defeated Southwestern Randolph last Friday and will be home against Asheboro this week)

#4)Northeast Guilford(17-5, held on to beat Rockingham County 44-38 in double overtime on Tuesday after losing 54-46 to Dudley last Friday.  NEG and Dudley are now both 10-1 in the conference. NEG home vs. Bartlett Yancey on Friday)

#5)Dudley(17-5, gained a victory over Western Alamance on Tuesday after the huge win over NEG and now the Panthers close out the Triad 3-A regular season at home vs. WG on Friday)

#6)Northwest Guilford(17-6, the Vikings crushed Smith 52-34 on Tuesday after blasting East Forsyth 53-31 last Friday and now NWG will travel to Page on Friday carrying an 8-3 conference mark with and chance to wrap up second place for the regular season)

#7)Southwest Guilford(16-7, took care of High Point Andrews on Tuesday 57-46 with Tyisha Bridges hitting for 23 and now the Cowgirls face Glenn at home Friday)

#8)TIE:Eastern Guilford(11-10/8-1, stopped Southern Guilford on Tuesday 63-52 behind Tasha Huntley’s 36 points and now will host WS Atkins on Thursday night at UNCG) High Point Central(13-10, eased past Page 52-51 on Tuesday after handling Smith 64-56 last Friday and now will play at North Forsyth this Friday)

  1. I agree with you guys, Hargraves is a keeper for Grimsley and the Whirlies are the #1 girls team in the state.
