Guilford Great Eight Basketball Polls

We don’t have many boys teams left and the girls go at it in the playoffs again tonight.  Great win for Northeast Guilford over Burlington Williams on Wednesday and what about High Point Central going out in round two and how do you do says High Point Andrews to Ragsdale.

Again there are only three things for certain in life; death, taxes, and Dudley Boys Basketball will always be strong in the post season.  I’ve been following these guys for over 25 years and I even have my name in their trophy case and let me tell you something they are always ready come playoff time.

Roll the Polls…Boys Poll:#1)Greensboro Day School(29-1, will take on Forsyth Country Day coached by Rusty LaRue in round one of the state tournament today in Asheville.  The Bengals won their 7th title last year in Greensboro, let’s hope they will bring home the Great Number Eight)

#2)Dudley(22-4, the Panthers led by seniors Josh Chavis, Kenny Belton, and Parrish Walker defeated South Granville on Monday, beat Wilson Fike 72-47 on Wednesday and now face Northeast Guilford for the 4th time on Friday night at Dudley.  Belton scored the first 10 points of the game Wednesday, with the Panthers pushing the ball inside and KB finished with 33, Chavis had a ton of assists and Walker is flying around the court with a special savy that can help a team in late February and early March)

#3)Northeast Guilford(24-5, the Rams got that tough road win at Williams and now visit Dudley on Friday with Mezie Uzochukwu playing like a man possessed.  MU had 34 against Wiliams and the Kenny vs. Mezie battle is already heating up.  Remember it’s Friday night, NEG at Dudley)

#4)High Point Central(25-3, these guys were the #1 ranked 4-A team in the state and now their season is over after the 55-52 loss to Central Cabarrus on Wednesday night.  I wish the Bison were still around, they always created a stir here at the web site)

#5)High Point Andrews(20-7, these men are still around after the big 25 point blowout win over Ragsdale on Wednesday.  71-46 winners and the Raiders coached by former Dudley assistant James Abell are on to the sectional finals on Friday)

#6)Ragsdale(20-7, the Tigers finish like lambs and what happened to the boys from Jamestown late in the season losing five of their last eight games and at one time being ranked #6 in the state?)

#7)Page(10-16, lost in the first round of the playoffs 70-57 to Huntersville Hopewell, but did beat rival Grimsley 3 times this season)

#8)Grimsley(11-13, the Whirlies were done in round one falling to WS Reynolds 68-56 but could be a solid team in the future with several key juniors and sophomore Keith Manley returning)

Girls Poll:#1)Grimsley(26-1, the WhirlieGirls defeated East Rowan 61-26 in round one of the sectionals and now host Charlotte Vance{11-11} tonight at the Bob Sawyer Gym.  Greensborosports.com will be there)

#2)Northeast Guilford(22-6, the Rams clobbered South Granville 59-24 in round one of the playoffs and they will host 15-9 Rocky Mount tonight at the John Primm Gym on Hicone Road.  We also congratulate the Rams and Coach Wayne Stevens on their Triad 3-A conference tournament title which they won over Dudley last Friday night)

#3)Dudley(21-6, the Panthers got off to a good start in the playoffs on Tuesday bombing Hope Mills Gray’s Creek 64-20 and now must go on the road to 22-3 Burlington Williams tonight. If Dudley and NEG both win they would face each other again at NEG on Saturday)

#4)Ragsdale(24-4, the Lady Tigers rolled over North Iredell 65-42 back on Tuesday and now face 13-12 High Point Andrews in Jamestown tonight.  HPA defeated #1 seed Statesville 64-61 in round one)

#5)Northwest Guilford(20-7, the Vikings offered no hope to Huntersville Hopewell on Tuesday beating HH 57-29 and NWG is on the road tonight at Mount Tabor.  The Vikings beat the Spartans by 1 point earlier this season)

#6)High Point Central(17-11, the Bison knocked off Davie County 55-28 back on Tuesday but now must go on the road to face 22-3 West Charlotte tonight)

#7)Southwest Guilford(17-9, the Cowgirls slipped past West Rowan 58-52 in round one and will meet a mighty tough 25-2 Eastern Randolph Wildcat squad tonight in Ramseur)

#8)Page(18-8, wow how the Pirates have fallen, winning the Little Four tournament over Dudley back in December and then losing to North Mecklenburg 71-52 in round one of the playoffs. The Pirates were also once ranked #1 in our greensborosports.com poll)
