Ladies First:The List

We gave you our boys greensborosports.com top five HS basketball players last week and now we have our girls top five for 2006/2007.  This will be the first girls all-star team announced in the area.

Topping the list are Trumae Lucas and Nicole Hargraves of Grimsley, Helen Terry of Dudley, Mercedes King of Northeast Guilford, and Jasmine Gill of Page.  The Dudley girls are in action tonight against Wilson Beddingfield down in Greenville,N.C.  Grimsley’s girls play Charlotte Harding Wednesday night in Winston-Salem.

If you missed our boys list it included Josh Chavis and Kenny Belton of Dudley, Johnny Thomas of Greensboro Day School, Jermaine Armstrong of High Point Central, and Mezie Uzochukwu of Northeast Guilford.

  1. What a great honor for these players and their schools… Andy you have a eye for sports so that is your calling… Keep up the good work……
Do you have a list for second teams players…????????
Who would be your pick for boys and girls coach of the year?

  2. The second team for girls would have to include some young ladies from
Ragsdale and High Point Central. Maybe Beeson or Spivey from HP Central
and possibly the point guard from Ragsdale and there’s Sierra Little from
Dudley and you have to have Tasha Huntley from Eastern Guilford and
there’s a call for Asha Hardaway from Northwest Guilford and Paris Best
from Southwest Guilford. On the boys side I’ll have to give it some more
thought but Brandon Harris of Page will get some votes along with Applegate
of HP Central and Gilchrist or Brooks from HP Andrews, the Jr. point guard
Seth Hawkins from Smith, Brandon Davis or Josh Lanham of Greensboro Day,
need one of the Canty kids from Ragsdale , either Marlan Smith or Keith Manley from Grimsley, and maybe even Parrish Walker of Dudley.
The final playoff results will determine the complete listing. Coach of the year
boys: we’ll have to watch the playoffs but James Abell from Andrews is getting
my attention and coach Price at Dudley is still in it, Coach K at HP Central
had a great run until the sectionals and will he go to the new Northern HS?
Coach of the year girls: Phil Weaver of Grimsley and Kris Britton of Dudley are still in the playoff run and Wayne Stevens of Northeast Guilford gets a strong
nod from me depending on the Regional’s outcome. Debrano, you, Jane W,
Greg, Tom, and the Gra8ful Coach would make our reader’s first team.
Thanks to all of you for following us this season at the web site and Debrano it
was good to see you at all those games supporting the kids. Andy Durham

  3. Josh Chavis, Kenny Belton, Jermaine Armstrong, Chris Applegate, Marlan Smith, there should not be 5th year seniors in your top 5 so Thomas is gone in my picks.
