Glenn’s Chris Jacobs puts a Hurt on the Ball at GHS Field

The Glenn Bobcats, led by the man that might be the second coming of Frank Thomas, put a hurting on the Grimsley Whirlies at the GHS field on Tuesday night.  Chris Jacobs, the Bobcats first baseman, hit not one but two shots to deep left field and sent the ball into the night leading Glenn in their 13-10 win over Grimsley.

The Jacobs’ homeruns traveled around 375-390 feet and he would have had a third homer but it was caught on the warning track before it could get up and out of the park. Both of the Jacobs dingers were solo shots so it could have worse.  Jacobs is big and he plays first base so the Frank Thomas comparison may be a fair examination.  Jacobs is going somewhere in the future, he is also a basketball player, standing about 6’5 and weighing at least 240.  Can you say Frank Thomas or maybe Cecil Fielder?  Hopefully for Chris’s sake it will be more like “The Big Hurt”, Thomas.

The Whirlies fought back in the game trailing 6-0, 6-4, then 10-5, but Grimsley rallied and cut the lead to 11-10 in the bottom of the 6th inning before falling by the 13-10 final.

Grimsley’s starting pitcher Aaron Jones threw well but the Whirlies had some early throwing and fielding errors that caused Jones to lose some of his backup support.  Clint Moore had a hit and drove in a run while drawing four walks and Gabe Dimock, Lucas Wren, and Andrew Faircloth all had key hits and provided run support with important RBI’s.

Coach Alan Ashkinazy had to go to his bullpen and bring on Wren and Ken Daly to relieve Jones and AA will try to save some innings for his pitching staff since Grimsley faces McMichael at 5pm Wednesday and then they meet Page on Friday night at 7.

Page lost for the first time this season on Tuesday, being shutout by East Forsyth 6-0, while Southeast Guilford knocked off Ragsdale 3-2(SEG is still unbeaten), Northwest stopped North Forsyth 5-1, Southwest Guilford looks strong they routed Ledford 11-1, and High Point Central crushed Smith 11-0.

I watched a bit of the Lacrosse game at Grimsley and the Whirlies got beat by a tough Durham Riverside team 10-8.  That Lacrosse is a fast-paced, hard-hitting game and all the way around it was cold watching outdoor sports on Tuesday evening.
