Are We Wrong?

This has been a crazy week at greensborosports.com.  What started out as an attempt to pass along some news and to add in a thought about the end result turned into good thing, bad thing, basic conversation, it’s getting hot in here, graphic details, and then the idea came about to create a memorial or tribute if you will.

Well we may have been wrong to let the tragic events surrounding Casey Bokhoven’s death turn into a three-ring-circus here on the web site but that was not the intention.  Never before have so many people weighed in on a subject and today one poster summed up the thoughts many are sharing.

“I didn’t want to come back to this site but I keep finding myself here”.  The more I read those comments the more I see Casey Bokhoven.  I saw his picture in the paper back on Monday morning and now his image wearing that cap is in my mind to stay.  I saw a kid(a guy in his mid-twenties probably) crossing the street this morning and he was wearing a cap and he made me think of Casey.  The more you read the comments, the more you feel like you know the family and you can see Casey wearing that cap with a smile on his face.  I don’t know the family, but I respect them.

Were we wrong for getting invovled in this story?  What’s done is done, but if something good can come out of this, where people had to the chance to express their feelings, then we all have learned an important lesson.

Sometimes something good can come out of something bad and even when the bad comes in you can turn it around and make something good out of it and I hope that’s what will happen.  I will not mention the people that were in the vehicle, because our thoughts need to be with Casey and his family right now, time will take care of the rest.

If you’ve had a bad experience here at greensborosports.com this week then I hope we can turn things around and we will do better.  Are We Wrong?  Only Time Will Tell.

  1. Thank you very much, Andy for that post. I know it is much appreciated by the Bokhoven family. I, too, appreciate it, and everyone can keep Casey, his friends and family in their thoughts and prayers today.

    Thanks again,
    ~Katie

  2. I don’ t think you were wrong. You put the facts out there and gave people a chance to vent their feelings. As much as some disagree… conversation in a time like this is a good thing.

I know they didn’t want him to die at all… but I am fairly sure they don’t want him to have died in vain either. Maybe, just maybe something good can come of this. As hollow as it sounds, I hope it will open the eyes of others. Make them stop and think before getting behind the wheel drunk. I know that I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars supporting Blue Bird Cab in Winston-Salem. I am not exaggerating. There have been times I thought “what a WASTE of money”. My thinking has changed.

  3. You dern straight your wrong. You people need to be talking about NASCAR over here. Stick to racing and give me some NASCAR stories.

  4. Yeah, where is the NASCAR talk? We are in the heart of NASCAR country. You should get a racing columnist, and you could give him a really goofy name like lugnut or something…

  5. I think you touched on a very sensitive subject and I would liketo express my sympathy to the family of Casey and his friends-maybe this will open the eyes of people who get behind the wheel after drinking too much and think twice before trying to get home too drunk to drive -but that being said it would be nice for you to get some NASCAR in your column maybe even a race pool every week

  6. My sister and Sean Bokhoven (Caseys brother) were married for close to 13 years, I know Sean and I knew Casey and they were 2 of the greatest people you would ever meet. They are the type of people that would give the shirt off their back for you. For people to say that this has turned into a three ring circus is disrespectful and distasteful to everyone that cares especially his family and friends. Unfortunately, it has taken something this tragic to make people actually start getting mad about those that drink and drive. I applaud everyone of these comments from these people who are really angry and letting their feelings be known about what has happened. The thing that pisses me off the most is that Tolly Carr was supposed to be someone sets examples for people because of the profession he chose. I do think a big deal and possibly a bigger deal should be made about this because there are many people who are in the public eye that get away with things they shouldn’t because of who they are and that is so not right!!!!! Its about time that high profile professionals and people that buy there way out of trouble be treated with the same punishments as everyone else!! My heart goes out to Sean and his family, I am thinking of you all.

  7. People are still talking and this is where they have chosen to let their feelings be heard. We all need an outlet.
