East Forsyth takes over Metro with win over Whirlies

The East Forsyth Eagles took sole possesion of first place in the Metro 4-A conference on Thursday  night with their 10-3  baseball victory over the Grimsley Whirlies.  The game was scheduled to start at 7pm Greensboro time but it was on the docket for 6pm Kernersville time so the contest started at about 6:21pm Daylight Savings Time.

The Eagles jumped on the Whirlies early pushing across 3 runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead behind the pitching of senior Zac Truesdale and I got know quite a bit about Zac and his fellow-Eagles while standing beside his dad who decided to talk the entire game.  Mr. Truesdale was  informative and you get a very insightful perspective about both teams when you are in the midst of the oppositon and they don’t know you are tracking the other team and not their Kernersville Club.

I learned a lot about East Forsyth and I got some inside thoughts about Grimsley from the enemy.  As for the game it was 3-0 East then Grimsley got on the board in the top of the third plus East added another run in the bottom of number three to make it a 4-1 ball game.

Grimsley made their charge in the top of 6th when they tacked on 2 more runs to make it tight at 4-3 headed to the bottom of the 6th.  East exploded crossing the plate 6 times in the sixth to run out to a 10-3 lead and that’s how it ended on Thursday night.

Travis Woolen and Kenny Swabb hit the ball well for East while Ken Daily found a way to get on base repeatedly for the Whirlies and Grimsley had hits from Clint Moore and Alan Craven to spark that the rally in the 6th inning.  Truesdale went five and a third for East on the mound and Swabb came on in relief and put out the fire for the Eagles.

East is unbeaten in the Metro 4-A and Grimsley finds itself tied with Northwest Guilford for second place with the Whirlies hosting the Vikings tonight at 6pm at the GHS ball field.  Aaron Jones a lefthander is scheduled to start for Grimsley.  Both GHS and NWG have lost this week to East Forsyth.
