Grasshoppers playing better at home

The Greensboro Grasshoppers are coming off a road-trip where they lost 7 of 8 games but since they’ve come back to First Horizon Park on Tuesday it has been a return to their winning ways.

The Hoppers have taken two straight from the Greenville Drive and the bad guys will be in town for two more nights.

On Tuesday evening the Hoppers blasted the Red Sox youngsters 10-1 and then on Wednesday the Grasshoppers made it a nice Fourth of July gift for their fans with a 6-5 victory.

The Hoppers are now 4-10 in the South Atlantic League’s second half and they just might find a way to get back to the .500 mark if men like John Raynor, Chris Coghlan, Logan Morrison, Spike McDougall, and Jake Blackwood can keep putting up the big numbers.

Raynor has been tearing it up with right at 80 runs scored, 36 stolen bases, and he’s hitting at a .330 clip. Coghlan has been selected to play in the Sunday afternoon Futures Game which will happen in association with Tuesday’s Major League All-Star game and the Home Run Derby on Monday in San Francisco, California. Coghlan is hitting .324 and has already driven in 63 runs to go along with his 10 home runs this season.

Morrison hit his team-leading 15th homer on Wednesday night and he has 49 RBI’s. His average is just shy of .300 and this kid is only 19 years old. McDougall has 12 homers and 52 runs driven in and Blackwood is at 52 RBI’s.

The Hoppers have some strong numbers to go with starting pitcher Graham Taylor’s 9-3 record and reliever Blake Jones picked up his 12th save of the season in 15 attempts on July 4th.

Former Hoppers Andy Jenkins(.321 avg.) and Todd Dolittle(18 saves), both members of the High Class A Jupiter Hammerheads were named to the Florida State League All-Star team. Former Greensboro Bats, Scott Seabol and Robert Andino now with AAA Albuquerque, made the Pacific Coast League All-Star squad.

All of the guys that we’re talking about here are with the Florida Marlins baseball organization.

The Greensboro Grasshoppers will be home tonight(Thursday) and again on Friday, so in the words of the “great one” Charlie Harville, hopefully we’ll see you at the ballpark. Both games start at 7pm versus the Greenville, South Carolina Drive.

  1. Hi,

I am Taylor Kricks Grandma and I am trying to access the free live radio station that is broadcasting the game today between the MLB Florida Marlins and the Grasshoppers.

My grandson Taylor Krick is in his 2nd season with a minor Marlins team. Last season he played for the james Town Jammers and the Gulf coast Leage.

This season he is with the Grasshoppers. He plays 4 possitions, 1st, 3rd. outfield and catcher. I do not know if he is on the roster for today but I have been trying to find this radio station.

    Thank you for any help
