Coghlan To Represent Marlins at 2007 ALL-STAR Futures Game Sunday

(Greensboro, NC) The Greensboro Grasshoppers are proud to announce the selection of second baseman Chris Coghlan to the 2007 XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game.
Chris Coghlan

A supplemental first round pick of the Marlins in 2006 from The University of Mississippi, Coghlan has lead the Hoppers in several offensive categories this season, including doubles (26), triples (4) and RBI (63).

After an impressive showing in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game, Coghlan received the news of this selection to the Futures United States roster.

“It was a surprise,” Coghlan said. “I was surprised but also happy that I’m able to represent myself, the organization and my family in the game.”

Coghlan will be surrounded by a solid infield, including Devil Rays 2006 first-rounder Evan Longoria, Ian Stewart, Steven Pearce, John Whittleman and Adrian Cardenas.

The 2007 Futures Game will be held at AT&T Park in San Francisco on All-Star Sunday and will be broadcast live at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

  1. According to USA Today, “Chris Coghlan had a difficult first inning at second base, booting Michael Saunders’ grounder for an error to lead off the game and then dropping a fly ball by Max Ramirez. But right fielder Jay Bruce saved Coghlan from a second error when he alertly caught the ball after it deflected off Coghlan’s glove but before it hit the ground for the third out.” Not sure how Chris did at the plate as I could never turn up a box score for this game. Chris and his US teammates fell to the World Team 7-2 at AT&T Park in San Fransisco on Sunday Afternoon.

  2. Coghlan was 0-1 with a walk and a ground out up the middle. He started the game and played through the 4th I believe..

  3. Former Greensboro Grasshopper pitcher Rick Vanden Hurk fom the Neatherlands got the win for the World Team 7-2. For the World Team South Atlantic League player James Van Ostrand from the Lexington Legends hit a solo homer.
