*****Special to greensborosports.com by Milton Jenkins at the AAU Girls National Basketball Tournament up in Kingsport, Tennessee*****

The Greensboro Galaxy girls won in a last second thriller over a very good Comets team from Baltimore, Maryland. The game was very close through out with no team having more than a six point lead. The Galaxy team trailed the whole game until taking a three point lead with 2 minutes to go. The Comets were dominating on the inside and tied the game up with 39 seconds to go. Coach Williams called time out and instructed her team on what play that she wanted. They executed it beautifully and Miranda Jenkins drove from the base line and then went to the middle and hit a running semi hook shot with 13.9 seconds left to give Galaxy a 35 to 33 lead. The Comets took the ball out and advanced it to half court with 3.5 seconds left after almost throwing an errant pass. The Gallaxy team dug in and did not allow the Comets to get a good look and forced them to attempt a 35 footer that was never close. The Galaxy got a great effort from every team member who played their role. Khadejah Wilkerson whom will attend Allen Middle this year played extremely well. She chipped in with 7 points and 4 rebounds while giving Desiree Drayton (Dudley) whom finished with her second double double 10 points and 15 rebounds much needed rest. Haley Newman (Northwest) gave real key minutes off the bench by banging it up on the inside and helped to neutralize the Comets dominant center. She added 2 rebounds and a key assist down the stretch. She sacrificed her body by diving on the floor to force a jump ball several times..Precious Tonkin (Grimsley) played a pivital role in making sure that the Comets didn’t get a good look at that last basket attempt. The Galaxy team is now 2 and 0.Here are the game stats:
