Coach Kent holds court

Coach Robert Kent, boys basketball coach at Page High School and the head coach of the boys West All-Star team held court at the Greensboro Coliseum on Monday night.

The West boys were winners 81-75 over the East and former Northeast Guilford star Mezie Uzochukwu was named game MVP after scoring 16 points and garbbing 8 rebouds.

Josh Chavis out of Dudley HS had 8 points playing the point and in the girls game which the West lost, Mercedes King from NEG had four points and got her picture in the paper and she was seen on the local News 2 Sports with Rick Pizzo. For some crazy reason Greg Kerr “sports-guy” was doing the News along side Sandra Hughes on Monday evening.

Sierra Little out of Dudley only scored 3 points for the West girls but she snagged 10 big rebounds.

Coach Kent’s old teammates at Western Guilford would be proud, and I’m sure Johnny Ralls, “Jungle Johnny” Blust, Johnny Mitchell, Mike Sapp, Jeff and Greg French, Steve Lackey, Steve Wyrick, Arthur Jordan, Goose Tatum, Keith and Mark Guenther, and maybe even his old coach Alan “Hoyt”/”Casey” Jones(now deceased) were all pulling for Robert Kent.

*****Big Jim Modlin should be sending us more on this event later today*****

  1. Word around the coliseum was that Steve Jones, Marty Walsh, Dr. Hobbs of Guilford College, Doc Lineberry, Jack Jensen, ML Carr, and Coach Hollifield
were last seen heading up Highway 40 West toward Cherokee.
