Northeast is going to be good, but can they beat Western Alamance?

The Northeast Guilford Rams are looking forward to another great run in 2007 but can they even win their own conference? The Rams are pointing to this season as one of the best for football in school history.

NEG has Kendall Bratcher one of the best athletes in North Carolina and they have Michael Via, a pre-season All-State selection. Bratcher is the QB and Via is the top offensive lineman and NEG has part three of the total package in returning FB Tyler Woods. Woods is a three-year starter and he could become the school’s all-time leading rusher this year.

Bratcher runs a 4.3 40 yard dash, Via is 6’6, 265 and covers the 40 in 5.0 flat. Woods is small at 5’6 but he can bench 270 and he ran for over a 1,000 yards in 2006. Northeast also has Joe Hayes 6’3,279 a definite college prospect and Josh Bynum another key performer at HB/SS and a top college recruit. Chris Reed a halfback/cornerback is another kid to watch.

Tommy Pursley’s NEG Rams have won 100 games in the past decade, claimed six conference championships and have made two State Championship game apperances.

The big question remains, can the NEG Rams beat Western Alamance and win the Triad 3-A conference championship? WA is picked #1 and NEG comes in at #2 followed by the Dudley Panthers at #3 in the pre-season poll posted by NCPreps.com. Again that’s #1 Western Alamance, #2 Northeast Guilford, and #3 Dudley. Kendall Bratcher is the pre-season pick for conference Player-of-the-Year. WA has All-State receiver LeVon Curtis and QB Donald Britt among their key returning players.

The Big Question is still out there, “Can the Northeast Guilford Rams beat Western Alamance and win the Triad 3-A conference championship”?
