GBC 12U Softball feeling the Heat

The GBC 12u softball team had a difficult time in their third pool game against the Blue Ridge Explosion. A six error first inning led to four runs and made it difficult for GBC to recover. However, they did settle down and played well for five more innings. The extreme temperatures and humidity quickly drains the pitchers and catchers. Having to rotate players to keep everyone cool and fresh makes it difficult execute a game plan. GBC did manage to get on the board in the third but the Explosion pitching kept us off balance. An exhausting 5-1 loss in the third pool game gave us a 2-1 record and seeded sixth for bracket play. Our first bracket game paired us against the tenth seed Maryland Champions again. We gave up a run in the first inning but came back in the third and scored two. Having to switch players in the fourth due to the heat proved to be detrimental to our cause. A couple walks and passed ball or two let the Champions grab the lead. We finally stopped the bleeding and got out of the inning. In the fifth inning we missed a huge opportunity with bases loaded and no outs. The Explosion tacked on three more in the sixth and the final was 6-2.

We play Friday at 8:00 am against the NC Lookouts. They are the third seed who lost an extra inning game to the fourteenth seed NC Lookouts. GBC will have to play well to win three games on Friday in order to stay alive.

Yes, Brianna Webb is the daughter of Todd and sister of Brian. A
surprise visit by Kevan and Sharon Moore on Tuesday was greatly
appreciated. In all my days of travel ball I have never experience these kind of playing conditions. It is amazing that these ladies play through it. It is hot!
