Page-RJ Reynolds pigskin preview

It is hard to tell how anyone is going to look this early on, but on paper Reynolds is the much more experienced of the two squads. 14 starters and eighteen lettermen overall return including nine starters on offense. If Reynolds starts clicking early on offense it could turn into a long evening for Coach Gillespie and his Pirates. Both teams have holes to fill on the defensive side of the ball as both squads have five returning starters. Page however only has four returning starters on offense and because of losses at the skill positions the Pirates enter 2007 with more questions that answers.

I think Page will have more speed, especially on the defensive side of the ball. And since most defenses are going to be ahead of the offenses at this point that in the end could be the difference. One advantage Reynolds has in my view is the potential match-up problems a spread set can give a run based defensive system such as Page. Lastly this is actually a huge game for both teams because it could affect the mindset that each team will have in what looks to be rugged non-conference schedules for both. Reynolds has a series of games following this against fellow Forsyth Co opposition while Page has perennial power NE Guilford calling down on Cone Blvd next Friday night followed by a three game road trip.

  1. Even though Page has only 4 returning starter on O, those holes are being filled by very talented and athletic Jr’s and Sophomore’s that saw playing time last year. For instance, RB DJ McNeill, As well as Jr OL Aaron Ganoe. I am sure Coach Gillespie has the Page players ready to go. I can’t wait for tomorrow night.
