This news from Andrew Tobias and the crew down in Florida near Vero Beach at Dodgertown, USA.

Josh Tobias, a rising freshman at Sotheast Guilford , and his team were 8-2 winners in the tournament that concluded today. Josh and his team had a great semifinal game on Friday and they won the trophy for finishing #1 this morning.

Josh was named the MVP out of 140 kids that were participating in the event. There were only three freshman on hand competing in the tournament. All of the other kids were older.

We will be hearing more from the Tobias family when they get back to town.@@@@@We just received more news see below.@@@@@

Andy:
We are back safe and sound from Vero Beach, Fl. site of The Dodgertown World Series. We arrived in Greensboro at approximately 2:45 a.m.

Thanks for the article on Josh. I will provide you with a little more detail in this E-mail.

There were a total of 140 kids there. There were Two regions, the east and the west. Each region had five teams of 14 players each. The names were derived from college teams that had reached the College World Series recently. The five teams in the East were the Bulldogs, Hurricanes, Cardinals, Tar Heels, and the
Owls(Josh’s Team). The West consisted of the Sun Devils, Beavers, Anteaters, Titans, and Longhorns.

Each team played three games and were seeded for Saturday’s Championship Day.

Day 1 — we defeated the Longhorns 4-3. Josh got the save.

Day 2 — we defeated the Tar heels in another close game 6-5. Josh went one for one [single].

Day 3 — there were two undefeated teams in our region on day two, the Hurricanes and the Owls. The Beavers were the only undefeated teams in the West region. This was a much anticipated showdown between what many thought were the
two best teams in the tournament [The Hurricanes and the Owls] We battled to a 0-0 tie until the top of the sixth when the Hurricanes scored 2 runs. Things looked bad for the Owls as those two runs were scored off of two bleeding singles that barely fell in over the infielders outstretched gloves. In the
bottom of the sixth the Owls started off with a single. We scored our first run on a passed ball, and with the bases loaded we scored the tying and winning runs on a bleeding single that barely fell over their infielders outstretched glove. That gave us a 3-2 win. What a game!!! Josh got the win in that game. He hit the ball very hard, especially in the bottom of the fifth inning with the go ahead run on second. He hit a screaming line drive up the middle, but the shortstop made a great leaping catch to rob him of at least a single and the go ahead run. He went 0-2.

On Saturday, we exploded early and often against the Beavers. Josh hit a triple over the center fielder’s head, and later scored on a single.

That gave him 2/4 hitting and three walks for the tournament.

His tournament totals were:
one save/ one win/ great defensive plays throughout the tournament/ and a big triple in the Championship game.

The breakdown of the players is as follows:

Seniors — 74
Juniors — 46
Sophomores 22
Freshmen 3

Total Players 145

I hope this helps. I’m going to see if the baseball factory will do an official write-up of the tournament. If they do, I’ll get that to you.
Let me know if you need more info.
