Hoppers playoff hopes Long Gone

Kannapolis Gives up Eight Runs in Seventh, Comes Back for Walk-Off Win-special to Greensborosports.com by Matt Dagostino

Kannapolis, NC:Things did not look very rosy for the Kannapolis Intimidators after allowing eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to the Greensboro Grasshoppers. But, all year long, Kannapolis manager Chris Jones has preached to his team the importance of playing nine full innings.

The Intimidators (33-31, 65-69) played until the very last swing Tuesday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, beating the Grasshoppers (33-32, 71-64), 10-9, on a walk-off error by Greensboro third baseman Jake Blackwood. It was Blackwood’s 32nd error of the season.

The score was 9-6 Hoppers in the bottom of the ninth when Greensboro brought in its closer, Blake Jones. Jones led the Grasshoppers with 19 saves, but had blown seven saves. He would blow his eighth save of the year before the night was over.

Kannapolis will travel to Greensboro Thursday to take on the
Grasshoppers at First Horizon Park. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
