Page-Grimsley Volleyball Match to battle Cancer

My name is Trevor Hewitt, and I am the volleyball director at the Greensboro Sportsplex as well as the head volleyball coach at Page High School in Greensboro.

I am writing to you because next Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at 5:30 PM the Page High School volleyball team will be participating in a very special match against Grimsley High School, our biggest and cross-town rivals. As you know from many years of covering sports in the Piedmont Triad, Page/Grimsley athletic events usually draw some pretty big crowds.

Knowing this, the two schools have teamed up this year to put on the Page vs. Grimsley Rally for a Cure volleyball match which will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (North Carolina Triad Affiliate). In this special match, taking place at the Morris Gymnasium at Page High School, both school’s JV and Varsity teams and coaches, as well as match officials will wear special pink uniform tops. Pink event t-shirts will be sold at the door for $8 to spectators.

Purchase of this t-shirt will be the admission charge for the evening. 50% of the t-shirt sales will go to the SGK Foundation and 100% of proceeds from our bake sale will be donated to the charity. In addition donations will be taken, and we will hold a 50/50 raffle during the games. Susan G. Komen Triad Affiliate will be there with an information booth, and special pink food will be sold too. We hope to raise as much money and awareness as we can with this volleyball event.

We are positive this is going to be a great event for our school communities as both schools are using this as their community service projects drawing attention to breast cancer as we Rally for a Cure. We are also hoping that this becomes the first of what grows into an annual event, with Grimsley hosting next year’s event.

I am hoping that Greensborosports.com can help provide some media attention and coverage for this event and would like to take this opportunity to invite you, Mr. Durham, and the Greensborosports.com sports team out to the Morris Gymnasium for this special volleyball match between Page and Grimsley. It will be a great event from the junior varsity to the varsity matches, and I hope that you can attend. The festivities begin at 5:30 PM with the JV match, and the varsity to follow.
