High School Football Saturday Morning Rewind

Our picks went 7-2 last night and looking back the two losses we suffered were worth it, just to see two more of our County teams pick up victories.

Our feature game had Ragsdale over Southeast 14-11. Ragsdale’s Miller Stadium was nearly packed out for this Mid-Piedmont conference game and it sends the Tigers to 1-0/4-2 for the season. On offense RHS had several standouts including QB Matt Heavner, WR Keith Matthews, WR/PR Ladarious Canty, RB Sean Cathey, RB Josh Clark, RB Eric Morrison, and Punter Desean Anderson. SEG was paced by Punter/K Terrance Topps, WR Brian Webb, RB Nick Bell, RB/DB Justin Venable, QB Luke Stewart, RB Carl Offord, LB Nathan Kroh, LB Josh York, DL James Pegues, and DL Brandon Armstrong. Matthews and Heavner put on quite a show and the same could be said for Webb and Topps.

We had one of our reporters, William Graves Sr., at the Southern Guilford game and the Storm pulled off the upset over previously unbeaten West Montgomery 15-14 in OT. 7-7 was the score in regulation and SG won it in overtime. Storm QB Antonio Martin threw a TD pass and ran for a score and tossed the two-point conversion pass to win it in the extra period. I saw our man William Graves Jr. got hit on a run and he was driven up into the seats by a WM defender. They showed this play on the Friday Football Fever on WFMY 2 with Greg Kerr along with Chris and Chris of ROCK 92. Southern is Deidre’s old school, they had to show the play.

Paul T. Lambeth II will have news later on the Northeast Guilford 34-7 win over Western. The NEG Rams rushed for 277 yards and passed for 156. WG had 68 on the ground and 25 through the air. The Dudley Panthers rolled over Rockingham County 26-6 with RB’s Kyree Ward and Joseph Jackson running for over 100 yards each and Ward scored 3 TD’s. In games we predicted, both High Point schools went down on the road, Andrews got down big early and then came back but still lost to the Asheboro Blue Comets 24-15. Central led by our man Ricky Mitchell, who ran for 106 and scored both Black Bison TD’s, fell to the Black Knights of North Davidson 20-17.

Northwest Guilford secured a huge road win taking Mount Tabor 21-20 in Winston-Salem. QB Zack Lewis and RB Chris Kennedy were the stars for the Viking offense. Without knowing much about Cedar Ridge we predicted Eastern Guilford would win on the road in Hillsborough and the Wildcats came through with a 24-13 victory. EG coach Scott Loosemore said the Wildcat defense was the difference. I wish Loosemore could send some of that defense over to Smith, and while you’re at it throw in some offense. The Smith Golden Eagles fall 47-0 to the WS Carver Yellowjackets. Ben L. Smith(0-5)
*****That’s it for another week, round number seven is on us and practice starts in 30 minutes.*****
