GREENSBORO, N.C. In a public display of unity, Chancellors from N.C. A&T and N.C. Central University joined together to address Saturday night’s post-game fight between two rivalry football teams.

One A&T player has been suspended for two games and an N.C. Central player was suspended for the week.

A rivalry, which has been heated over the past eight years, came to a head Saturday night when members of the N.C. Central Eagles stomped on the A&T football logo.

A&T campus police broke up the fight between the two teams, which according to eyewitnesses, lasted less than a minute. No one was injured, but pepper spray had to be used to break up the altercation which caused much loud talk and disruption on the East Market Street walkways later on after the game. N.C. A&T Aggie coach Lee Fobbs said he could still taste the nasty pepper spray in his mouth long after the fighting was halted.

“I can honestly say I have never seen the intensity of conflict like I saw Saturday,” said A&T Chancellor Stanley Battle.

While reports earlier this week indicated the two schools may not play each other next year, both Chancellors agreed it’s premature to make that decision.

“We’re both here to say that this type of behavior is wrong. We’re not going to tolerate it, and we’re committed to working collaboratively to make sure that it doesn’t happen again. That’s what we’re here for today,” said N.C. Central Chancellor Charlie Helms.

Both Universities are still reviewing tapes and more player suspensions could follow.
