Here’s the Press Release:
Greensboro, N.C. — Local college students and the community have an opportunity to help replenish supplies and ease the need at area food banks.

Greensboro College hosts the 11th Annual Gate City Souper Bowl at the season’s football home opener versus Guilford College on September 29 at 7:00 p.m. at Jamieson Stadium.

The community is invited to come enjoy a great friendly rivalry along with helping the hungry in our community. Admission is free by donating nonperishable food items.

Donations will be distributed to both the Greensboro Urban Ministry and Food Assistance Inc, Groceries on Wheels program. Jane Carlson who works with the Groceries on Wheels program says, “The food supply this year is very low from normal sources. This donation will help by giving us extra food to distribute.”

Last year, college students and community members collected over 10,000 nonperishable donations – a record-breaking supply of food items.

This effort is being coordinated through Village 401, an initiative of Greensboro College to connect the college with its neighbors through meaningful and purposeful outreach programs.

Both colleges have a long-lived tradition of giving back to the community. Over the years, the Souper Bowl football game has become another way to uphold that commitment.

The Souper Bowl will be held during Greensboro College’s annual Family Weekend September 28 – September 30. Hundreds of students and family members will enjoy a variety of activities.
