State-wide College football Top Ten

This is getting very complicated with our Big Three(Carolina, State, Duke) losing every week. I am ready to kick them out of the poll until they prove they belong again.

#1)Catawba(5-0) Last week 1-The Indians defeated Mars Hill on national television and Catawba’s coach is a former Guilford College player Chip Hester. The Indians are the best team in the state, reservation or no-reservations.
#2)Appalachian State(4-1) LW 5-You have to give it to the Mountaineers doing what they did to a tough Elon team with ASU backup QB Trey Elder at the controls. This week Gardner Webb.
#3)Guilford College(4-1) LW 4-Is there a better QB in the state than the Quakers’ Josh Vogelbach? You also have to hand it to his offensive line, JV has great protection back there in the pocket.
#4)Wake Forest(2-2) LW 3-The Demon Deacons had last week off to get ready for Duke this Saturday. Remember how close last year’s game was? It was the turning point of the season for Wake when they won it in Winston-Salem after the Blue Devils missed the game-winning field goal.
#5)Elon(3-2) LW 6-Elon gave ASU all they wanted through three quarters but then the Apps championship mantra kicked in. Elon with Scott Riddle at the helm will give every team they face problems.
#6)East Carolina(2-3) LW 7-Pulled one out of their Pirates’ Hat 37-35 at Houston and now have Central Florida coming up next.
#7)Winston-Salem State(2-3)LW 10-Lost 24-21 to Howard in OT. With other teams falling, WSSU is moving on up to the big-time.
#8)Wingate(4-1) LW 2-The Bulldogs were a big part of our poll but they lost last Saturday to Tusculum 31-28 and the “Dogs may be on their way out.
#9)Greensboro College(1-3)LW 9-These kids are a fun to follow and let’s hope that good crowds will turn out to Jamieson Stadium for all of the Pride’s home games this season. Next up is Christopher Newport this Saturday night at 7pm. Look for GC’s Torrey Lowe, he is one of the best DIII players in the country.
#10)The UNCG Security Guards(0-1) LW NR-The guards were beaten by group of freshman computer lab assistants Saturday night after Homecoming, 10 jumped on 7, but the Security staff showed real moxy rolling down the hill at the campus golf course and then climbing back up to the top of the hill to show and tell the lab assistants their rights and lefts. UNCG Security, this one-oh or oh-and-one is for you.
(Falling out of this week’s poll:(Carolina, State, and Duke all 1-4. Duke had the best chance to win last Saturday at Miami, Carolina came in second up in Blacksburg, and State finished third. See the Daniel Evans story)
