Whirlies Crush Central 31-6

Zach Maynard ran 39 yards for one score and passed 20 yards to Jack Schultz for another to pace Grimsley past High Point Central 31-6. Central had their chances but four Bison turnovers combined with four empty trips in the red zone put Central in too big of a hole to climb out of. The win moves Grimsley to 7-0 with the grudge match against Page upcoming next Friday night, Central drops to 2-5.

Ramon Rosado opened the scoring with a 31 yard interception return only 1:50 into the contest. Grimsley next score was nearly as easy, a fumble recovery at the Bison 10 led three plays later to Maynard’s pass to Schultz and a 14-0 lead after the opening period.

An impressive Central march deep into Whirlie territory ended in another interception. This time Grimsley went 98 yards in 10 plays in just over three minutes with Maynard completing the drive with a 39 yard TD run. Another Central march wound up with the Bison turning the ball over on downs inside the Grimsley 10. And once again the Whirlies would make them pay as a 10 play 83 yard drive took up the final three minutes of the first half concluding with a 32 yard Stephan Sheppard field goal and a 24-0 lead at the half for the Whirlies.

In the second half the only score came after another Bison turnover as David Moore dove in from the one. Central only avoided the shutout with an ‘oh by the way’ touchdown on literally the final play of the game.
