Hockey Team Forgoes Radio For Internet

In a sign of the times, the AHL Iowa Stars and USHL Des Moines Buccaneers games will no longer be heard live on the radio. They will broadcast on the Internet. It’s on growing trend for sports teams, even when the local radio station offers FREE air time.

The only draw-back for the fans – instead of listening to a FREE radio broadcast, they must subscribe to the Internet service.

More monetizing of the fans. There will come a time that the only free sports will be pick-up games and elementary school games.

  1. And in the near future, if you want to go to a pick-up game or an elementary school game, you’ll still have to wade your way through a passel full of agents and scouts and hangers-on.
