State-wide College football Top Ten

Here’s how they are shaping up after last week’s Big Games:
#1)Catawba(7-0) LW1-The Indians pulled off a win over Carson-Newman 55-49. I believe the kids from Salisbury are the only unbeaten college team in the Carolinas.
#2)Wake Forest(4-2) LW4- WFU is hot after the 24-21 win over Florida State and the Demon Deacons are position to win the Big Four title. UNC in two weeks.
#3)East Carolina(4-3) LW3- Talk about a team that has gone crazy, this is it. The Pirates defeated Texas-El Paso 45-42 right after the wild win over Central Florida and now ECU finds N.C. State headed to Greenville this Saturday. We like to move things around and this team is going to be moving up.
#4)Appalachian State(5-1) LW2- The Mountaineers were off last week and have Georgia Southern coming to Boone this Saturday. QB Armanti Edwards is supposed to be back for ASU.
#5)Elon(4-2) LW5- The Phoenix won a thriller over Georgia Southern in Double OT 36-33. Former Eastern Randolph QB Scott Riddle threw 3 TD’s for the Phoenix, kicker Andrew Wilcox had 5 field goals, Bo Willamson out of Burlington Cummings had 6 catches for 114 yards and a TD and former Southeast Guilford punter Brandon Lane averaged 43.6 yards per punt on five boots. Elon is (2-1) in the SoCon.
#6)Wingate(6-1)LW8-The Bulldogs keep on winning and made easy work(31-13 victory) of Fred Goldsmith’s Lenoir-Rhyne Bears last week and now have Newberry up next on the schedule.
#7)NC Central(5-2)LW:NR- The Eagles won 17-14 over North Greenville and enter our poll for the first time this season.
#8)Guilford(4-2)LW6- The Quakers gave up the ghost and lost 76-28 at Bridgewater. This was the most points allowed to a Guilford opponent since 1952 and GC qb JV(Josh Vogelbach) only lasted two and half quarters.
#9)UNC-Pembroke(3-4)LW:NR- We get more mail about the Braves than any other team and they are back by popular demand even though they lost 10-7 to West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. UNCP travels to face Edward Waters this week.(not to be confused with Ethel Waters, Bob Waters, or Bucky Waters)
#10)UNC-Chapel Hill aka:North Carolina or just plain old Carolina(2-5)LW9-The Heels played the other Carolina tough but came up a bit short in their comeback attempt falling 21-15. This close loss may help the team more than a win. If they beat USC then expectations would be sky high, but now with a close but no cigar the fans will be excited and will continue to look for steady improvement from the Butch Davis squad.

Teams on the decline:NC A&T(0-7) Is Fobbs finished or will the Aggies give him more time? Greensboro College(1-5) I have a bad gut feeling that coach Neal Mitchell will be gone at the end of the season. UNCG men’s soccer(6-5) Coach Parker losing his touch?*****Wake Forest gave the UNCG men’s soccer team it’s worst loss in 30 years with an 8-0 victory Tuesday night at UNCG Soccer Stadium.*****
