High School football Tuesday morning Rewind

We went 8-2 on our picks and almost saw one major upset on Monday night when Western Alamance, the #1 ranked 3-A team in the state, had to battle back in the 4th quarter to tie Dudley at 7-7 and then the Warriors went on to win in Overtime 14-7 with one of the state’s top players, WA’s QB Donald Britt, leading the way.

Britt scored both Western TD’s and without this kid the Warriors would be in big trouble. Dudley’s defense played a great game and it’s a darn shame the Panthers had to lose.

Page won to clinch the Metro 4-A Conference title because if they were to lose this Friday to Northwest they would be tied with Grimsley assuming the Whirlies don’t get hijacked on their way over to Smith. If Page lost and Grimsley won they would both be 4-1 Metro and Page beat Grimsley 24-23 in the head-to-head battle to give the title to the Pirates. Page can pull the perfect 5-0 by topping NWG but you have think the Vikings would love to be the spoiler.

Monday night it was Page over High Point Central 35-14(Pirate QB Will Newman 2 TD’s passing/2 TD’s running , Grimsley knocked off East Forsyth 35-21(another big night for Whirlie senior Zach Maynard), Northwest shutout Smith 34-0(for NWG Zack Lewis is back), Western Guilford handled Bartlett Yancey 27-14, High Point Andrews eased past Southwest Guilford 18-14, and Reidsville rolled over Southern Guilford 46-14.

Our man Willliam Graves ran for 177 yards against a very tough Reidsville Ram squad and now the Storm have to re-group and get ready for the trip down to Eastern Guilford on Friday night. I have caught the Storm players’ attention with my predictions and reports and it is good to have all of the SG players coming over to GREENSBOROSports.com.

The last games of the regular season are coming up this Friday and the playoffs are just around the corner.

  1. Whirlies are 9-1, lookin 10-1 in the face unless Bellicheck comes down to GSO to coach Smith on Friday. Still, would give up all those wins just to have that one against Page. But, the Whirlies should get a good seeding come playoff time. I have a feeling that Grimsley’s full stable of running backs, along with the play of Zach Maynard will become very usefull against playoff teams. From the N&R, report on the EF game it sounds like GHS is pounding it out on the ground. That is Whirlie football, nothing fancy, just get the job done. GO WHIRLIES!

  2. Page Clinched the Metro. Which means Page will receive anywhere from 2-5 seed. Grimsley is looking at anywhere from a 4-7 seed. The raw ADM’s were posted on the DPI website, even though they are not the final numbers, it gives you an idea of what each school has. Here are the raw ADM numbers for Guilford County. (Remember these are not the official/final numbers)

  3. Rob, Dudley kicked an extra point and if they could have kicked a 24-25 yard field goal then they could have beaten Western Alamance in regulation. Dudley had the ball on the WA eight yard line but didn’t trust the kicker Ricky Lewis Jr. enough to try the field goal so they had to go for it on 4th down and they came up short. Dudley is squeezing the extra points through but the field goals are still a different story.

Good numbers PP44. I wonder if Grimsley will have to carry most of the Weaver numbers, last year they did and it put them at an automatic 4-AA.

  4. yeah, good work 44, those #s tell me that GHS vs. PHS pt. 2 could possibly happen. Even though, we probably will get the Weaver kids and go 4AA. But, congrats on the Metro Title, ITS ON NOW! GO WHIRLIES!

  5. The Smith Academy is located in the old Oakwood Mobile Homes office building on Holden Road near HP Road.
