The boy’s title belonged to Greensboro Day School in 2006 after the Bengals defeated the Dudley Panthers 68-63 for their seventh overall championship. The Bengal boys will try to make it 3 in a row in 2007.

Since 1989, Pizza Hut has been the title sponsor of the Little Four. Commodore Restaurants operates eight Pizza Hut locations in the Greensboro area.

*****Players on the move include guard Seth Hawkins who was at Smith and now is at Northeast Guilford. Hawkins was at Page before he transferred to Smith. Juwann Trapp(also a guard) has joined up at NEG after playing last year at Page.*****

Two former ACC basketball stars Curtis Hunter(UNC Tar Heels) at Northeast and Gene Banks(Duke Blue Devils) at Smith are coaches in this year’s tournament.

We hope to have some comments from tournament co-chair Kevin McCoy coming your way soon and we are looking forward to another great Pizza Hut Little Four Basketball Tournament in late December at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center.

  1. How good is the GHS mens team? I thought they would be mediocre like the last few seasons. I was surprised to see that they had the # 3 seed. Any info would be appreciated.

  2. The girls of Grimsley are gonna be great and the boys will be above average. The ranking for the boys is based heavily on past successes and on the historical value of the Grimsley name. Coach Darren Corbett is one of the best people coaching kids we have in this area. Very intelligent gentleman. Keith Manley(college prospect) will be their best player. He can block shots with college guys and he must stay out of foul trouble. Jonathan Leonard and David Dupont are on the Soccer team and the Whirlies need their help ASAP. Dupont is 6’5 and can run the point. Leonard is a very good outside shooter. Seeding based on years of basketball in the city, not last season.

  3. You are on the money about Julius Brooks. He’s 6’9 and still a growing kid and he will be a junior this year. I saw him working on his free throws in the Mac Morris Gym about three weeks back. I have also seen Julius on several occasions at the McGirt Horton Library over on Philips Avenue, which is a good thing to see a kid in the Library these days. Jasmine Gill from Page also lives over that way.

Hopefully jamos24 is still reading here, because Grimsley should also have another kid back, JB Beloved. He would be a senior pt. guard and he is, get this, a transfer from Greensboro Day School. He came to Grimsley last year and Freddy probably could have used him when Jay Lewis went down.

  4. From what i’ve heard the Page mens basketball team will be solid this year. Even without the 2 guards that transfered out. You can always count on Coach Kent to give you a shot at all the games you play. He is one of the best coaches in the state.

  5. Andy, thanks a lot, its goood to see the GHS Men’s team back on the rise. Hopefullly, they will do something with the talent they posess.

  6. Got a preview last night of a tough GDS team against Smith. Final scored read 79-48 and could’ve been much worse if GDS hadn’t gone to their third string for the majority of the second half. As always, I was amazed by GDS’ senior guard Bruce Woodall who has to be one of the best pure shooters to come out of the area in the last decade. That said, I think the kid resides in the Danville, VA area. Inked with UVA for golf … Local D-1 programs have to hate he’s not playing at the next level.
