Interest in Eastern Guilford girls growing

from a concerned reader in the Eastern Guilford district:

Here is something that you may want to build around especially in the recent articles that were very interesting concerning kids leaving different schools particular Eastern Guilford. This would be great for you to piggy back off of and talk about some who did stay even though their school burned down and it would have been a just reason by all means if they decided to leave. How many of the area schools in girls basketball have girls playing a lot and contributing at the collegiate level right now?

Amber Wall (Elon) Had four double doubles last year as a freshmen and is playing a lot this year until a recent injury. Natasha Huntley is the starting point guard for Norfolk State and had 13 points, 4 assist, 3 rebounds and 1 steal in her college debut this past Friday.

Coach Gunn’s young EG girls squad that is loaded with juniors, sophomores and freshmen beat River Mill 47-41 who won over 30 games last year and was 4 and 1 coming in to the contest. Capricia Small (Soph) and one of the most underrated players in the area had 11 points, 8 assist, 7 rebounds, 5 blocks and 3 steals from the point guard position. Ameriah Jamison (Soph) had 10 points, 21 rebounds, Lashonda Anderson (Junior) had 8 points and 16 rebounds both Amerijah and Lashonda average 12 rebounds and 10.6 rebounds respectively last year. Kristin Crosby(Soph) had 7 points and 3 rebounds, Angelica Mack (Junior) had 3 points and 2 rebounds. Off the bench Natsha’s younger cousin Miranda Jenkins(Fresh) made her debut and scored 4 points and had two rebounds and nailed a 20 footer during crunch time in the fourth quarter to keep Eastern ahead by four points. Courtney Torain (Fresh) contributed 2 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.

Keep in mind that all these young ladies attend school in those trailers that is not like all the nicities that usually accomodate a school setting. Their home base games will be at UNCG a college setting that does not warrant the warm feeling of being at home. Sometimes conflict builds character and makes one more appreciative and more focus in the overall scheme of things. Who knows maybe Coach Gunn and Eastern will have some more girls in the future that are performing at the next level that no one never really noticed like many get at Little Four Tournaments but the basic fundamentals of the game has it rewards in the long run.

Could it be that getting exposure that many seek can sometimes expose some things both athletically or academically that should have remain where it originated?
