Duke fires Roof

Duke fired Ted Roof as its head coach on Monday, two days after the Blue Devils ended a 1-11 campaign.

A news conference is scheduled for this afternoon at which time the official announcement will be made.

Roof’s record at Duke was a dismal 6-45. The Blue Devils went winless in 2006 and could only manage one win this fall, when Duke upset Northwestern.

According to David Glenn on his WRAL blog, Duke is looking to make a fresh start with its football program. If Duke is serious about making changes that allow the Blue Devils to compete, a new coach could turn the long suffering program around. Unfortunately for Roof, he will not be around to benefit from any potential changes.

  1. Ted Roof should have been coach for life. His team played hard every week. They were just outmanned. Until the Athletic Department mkaes a comiitment to improve the football program, they will always be last in the ACC, no matter who the coach is.
