Eastern Guilford at UNCG

High school basketballs were bouncing again last night at UNCG where the Eastern Guilford Wildcats took on Burlington Williams. EG pulled off the sweep taking the girls game by 20, 62-42, and then the boys game was much tighter with EG prevailing 63-52 over BW and believe me the game was much closer than the above score indicates.

Eastern’s girls look good early in this season and the big reason is the play of big Lashonda Anderson on the inside. Anderson was open all night long along the left block and she took full advantage of her heighth and strength with 24 big points for the Wildcats. Capricia Smalls with her folks yelling some New York smack from the stands added 12 and although the N&R boxscore has freshman Miranda Jenkins with 8 the UNCG scoreboard had her up there for 10 points. Jamison(Amiriah), Crosby(Kristin), and Mack(Angelica) also contriubuted for EG as the ‘Cats moved to (3-0) on the season.

That’s a lofty start for such an unknown squad, but I guess now and you have to call or E-mail me on this one, another Jock Lobotamata great line here, “The Cat’s out of the Bag”.

The EG boys and Williams were all tied up at the half at 32-32 but the Wildcats made off like bandits with their second half effort. Mark Jernigan only had 12 points to pace the EG attack but this kid does so much more. Watch this kid play, he scores, he drives the lane and dishes off assists, he rebounds with the bigger guys on the inside, he does many different things to help his team. This kid has been well-coached or he has been living in a gym for the past 16 years like our old buddy Chris Mullins of St. Johns and the Golden State Warriors. I pride myself in finding talent and I’m telling you, this kid could help somebody at the next level, DII or DIII or mid-major, whatever. He would make a great point guard for some school.(He’s not playing the point now but it looks like that’s where his future lies)

Eastern has a lot of hoops savy and the entire team played heads-up ball vs. Williams. Zamar Dixon with 10 points along with Octavious Wilson and Chris Herbin from Scott Loosemore’s football were out there last night and “Mr. Movement” Tony Rogers and “Super Strong” Terry Carter comprise a reliable small point guard role for the ‘Cats. Rogers is little and is moving everywhere and Carter is strong and extra quick. Tre Radcliffe and Quashad Williams helped out with the EG inside attack.

The EG boys are also (3-0) early in 2007/2008 and with two big wins last night, Eastern Guilford got the sweep over Burlington Williams at UNCG.

  1. Any time you feel Smalls’s NY folks talking trash in the stands, why don’t you talk to them about it there instead of online. And while you’re at it concentrate on your own kid and her game and stop yelling your nonsense to other people’s kids who don’t want to hear it!
