Nathan White says Dudley is the team to beat:Panthers take out Oxford Webb 14-6

The Dudley Panthers went on the road again last night and defeated the Oxford Webb Warriors 14-6 at Oxford in round four of the State 3-AA football playoffs.

I told someone as I was walking in at Oxford that I felt like I had finally been accepted at Oxford and I had been trying to get in for years. I have arrived at Oxford and this kid comes up to me and says, “hey man you better get up there in that press box and call a good game”. That kid was Nathan White and he had traveled from Greensboro to see the game with his dad the Reverend Dennis White of the Hopestreet Youth Group Home Mininstry. Nathan’s sister was there too and she is the President of the Freshman class at Dudley.

Nathan White was a bit prophetic in his assessments because he said that the Dudley Panthers were going to take out Oxford Webb and that eight year-old kid was right on the money. White was right last night and so was Dudley’s Ricky Lewis. The Panthers’ QB ran for two TD’s, one going for 50 yards and the other was a one-yard burst across the goal-line to paydirt. Leiws also ran for the two-point conversion so he accounted for all of Dudley’s scoring. Lewis totaled 144 yards on the ground he completed three of five passes.

Kyree Ward ran the ball like a mule for Dudley, well it was really more like a combination of a mule and a ox. Ward was running strong. Chris Neal and Josh Jones were huge up front for Dudley on defense and they had the help across the field with Jermaine Moore and Major Bryant crashing in and cashing in while making key tackles for the Panthers. Justin King had what proved to be the interception of the year,(hey this might end up being the defensive play of the year), when JK picked of an Antwan Thorpe pass to halt an extra large JF Webb Warrior drive late in the contest.

The Dudley “D” continues to be the key to v-i-c-t-o-r-y and the Panthers’ Kenny Okoro has been stepping up and playing so tough that the opposition is trying to throw away from where the DB is stationed but KO is finding the spots and he and his Panther teammates find themselves in the right spot going into next Saturday’s title game against Charlotte Catholic(13-2).

That eight year-old kid Nathan White said it right last night, it’s time for more Dudley dy-no-mite and the Panthers(12-3 overall and 3-AA East Champs) are the team to beat as they head toward the 3-AA championship game.

Former Dudley coach Victor Floyd will have his team down in South Carolina playing for a high school state championship tonight at the Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. Floyd coaches the Chester Cyclones(12-2) and they will be facing Wilson HS(11-3) out of Florence, S.C. Kickoff is set for 6pm and several local fans are headed down to take in the action.

Dudley’s game with Charlotte Catholic is set for 3:30pm next Saturday December 8 at Kenan Stadium in Chapel-Hill.

  1. Dudley should enjoy this year because with the proposed realignment they won’t be able to be beating up on theses little schools in the playoffs anymore. They’ll finally have to start playing better schools than they currently play.

  2. Could we just be happy for the only team in Guilford Co to make it to the State Championship Game? Keep in mind that 1.Dudley did not determine which division or conference they were assigned to. It was determined by NCHSAA , and 2. They beat two 4A schools in Guilford Co. (Page and Smith), losing to only Grimsley this year. Lastly, in order to be classified in the 3AA division, it is not possible to play “little schools”. Why is that comments about certain schools must always come with negativity? If you are a resident of Guilford Co, you should be very proud of the James B. Dudley Varsity Football Team as they are representing you this weekend in Chapel Hill, NC. Get your tickets!

  3. Andy, thank-you for your coverage of Dudley. Most of the media won’t give us the time of day. News 2 acts like they’re afraid to come down here. It’s good to have you guys on OUR side.
