Last Friday night’s hoop action

I was over at Page for the Pirates-Tigers contest and was a bit surprised by the girls outcome with Page(4-1) falling 63-56. It was an off-night for the Pirates and to Ragsdale’s credit they couldn’t miss. The boys game shocked me too, not the result but the margain of victory with Page(5-0) running away with it. The Pirates claimed the win 89-67 and had no problem with the Tigers. Page is very quick and just like in the girls game, but with roles reversed, Page was hitting everything and Ragsdale left their game in Jamestown.

Julius Brooks had 21, Luqman Tijani 19, while Deonte Maddox and Jordan Weethe had 14 each. I believe that Maddox and Weethe are both sophomores. Jay Canty and Wally Jones had 20 and 17 for Ragsdale.

Dudley topped Smith by only 10 points(71-61) as Marcus Heath had 19 and Brandon Pennix pumped in 17. Many fans are saying watch out for Panther freshman P.J. Hairston. Omari Hunt had 29 and Avery Hardy 12 for Smith. Northern Guilford remained undefeated going to (4-0) with the Nighthawks 53-36 win over Eastern. The NGHS squad is made up of freshman and sophs. only and are playing a varsity schedule. Western Guilford has gone to (5-1) under new coach Art Wade. WG over NWG 70-44.
SWG paced by T.J. Hayes 22 points got their first win of the year rolling over SEG 82-58.

In girls action Eastern Guilford improved to (6-1) as they stopped Northern 57-49. Kristin Crosby 16, Miranda Jenkins 15, and Capricia Smalls with 13 helped the Wildcats whose only loss came to Southwest Guilford. SEG is (5-1), they beat SWG 65-51. NWG crushed WG 70-32 and Dudley behind Helen Terry’s 20 points topped Smith 73-54.

The News and Record had the Sunday morning box from Friday night’s Greensboro Day-Ravenscroft game at 68-64 Ravenscroft but the game summary had GDS winning the game. I went back and added up all of the player’s individual totals for both teams and came up with the N&R boxtop of 68-64 Ravenscroft to send GDS to (9-1), with their first loss of the season coming to a very tough Raleigh Ravenscroft squad.
