The first GREENSBOROSports.com basketball polls of the year are here and it is time to get it in gear. I saw ten games last week and so far this week I have caught two HS games and one recreation game at the Pleasant Garden Gym.

Here’s the first poll and feel free to comment:

Boys…#1) Greensboro Day School(9-1) Lost to Raleigh Ravenscroft 68-64 last Friday night. Will play North Raleigh Charistian this Friday at home.
#2)Page(5-0) Defeated Ragsdale last Friday 89-67. At home Friday vs. Eastern Randolph.
#3)Grimsley(5-1) Only loss came at Ragsdale. Whirlies were on the road on Tuesday and they knocked off Reidsville 81-54. Home Friday against West Forsyth.
#4)Dudley(1-0) Should be tough again, beat Smith by 10 last Friday, at Smith this Friday.
#5)High Point Andrews(3-1) Beat a good Ragsdale team 53-39 on Tuesday, will meet High Point Central on Friday.
#6)Ragsdale(4-2) Began the season at 4-0 and now have dropped back-to-back games to HPA and to Page. Will host SEG on Friday.
#7)Northern Guilford(4-0) Popped Eastern Guilford 53-36 last Friday and will be in action again on Saturday vs. Northwest Guilford at Guilford College . Only sophomores and freshmen playing a full varsity schedule. This team is going to be real good.
#8)Northeast Guilford(3-2) Rams are good with Seth Hawkins leading the way and it showed in their 61-46 victory over SWG on Tuesday. They miss the inside precense of Mezie Uzochukwu, who will step up?
#9)Western Guilford(5-2) New coach Art Wade has the Hornets headed in the right direction even though they lost last night to Asheboro 64-52.
#10)Eastern Guilford(3-3) Lost last time out to Northern but the Wildcats will be OK with Mark Jernigan leading the way.
#11)Smith(2-3) The Eagles miss Seth Hawkins but Omari Hunt and Avery Hardy are trying to hold things together for first-year coach Gene Banks. They host Dudley on Friday night.
#12)High Point Central(2-5) Could be a long year for the Black Bison.
#13)Northwest Guilford(1-5) You hope things might get better for coach Mike Everette.
#14)High Point Wesleyan(7-3) The Tojans with James Robbins and Josh Coble might be ready to put the jump on some of our public schools. Keep an eye on this team, defeated Durham Academy 53-49 last Friday.
#15)Southwest Guilford(1-4) Went down hard 61-46 at the hands of NEG on Tuesday night.
#16)Southeast Guilford(1-7) The Falcons dropped a one-point game that they had won with East Davidson on Wednesday and they may be facing more of the same in the coming weeks.
#17)Southern Guilford(0-7) The Storm had a great year in football.

Girls…#1)Grimsley(6-0) Rolled over Reidsville 78-44 Tuesday.
#2)Northwest Guilford(6-0) Vikings topped West Forsyth 64-52 on Wednesday evening.
#3)Page(4-1) Saw the perfect season fall by the wayside after last Friday night’s 63-56 loss to Ragsdale. Made a nice comeback but fell too far behind, down 33-21 at the half, couldn’t make it back.
#4)Ragsdale(4-2) Look to be on the rebound after that win at Page, big game Friday with SEG.
#5)Eastern Guilford(6-1) Could be the surprise team of the county, beat Northern 57-49 last time out.
#6)Southeast Guilford(5-3) Have lost two in a row and will have a tough road trip going to Ragsdale on Friday. Beat SWG 65-51 last Friday.
#7)Northeast Guilford(3-2) Defeated SWG 38-32 on Tuesday.
#8)Southwest Guilford(3-2) SWG had an 18-10 halftime lead on NEG, got out-scored 17-4 in the 4th quarter.
#9)Dudley(1-1) Crushed Smith 73-54 last Friday and should move up quick when they get more games under their belt.
#10)Smith(3-3) Defeated GW Danville 46-39 Tuesday and have the re-match with Dudley on Friday.
#11)Northern Guilford(2-4) Picked up a big 62-58 win over Lexington on Tuesday.
#12)High Point Central(3-4) Loaded with freshmen but whipped up on Mount Tabor 37-26 on Wednesday.
#13)High Point Wesleyan(8-2) This might be another team to keep and eye on.
#14)High Point Andrews(1-3) Don’t have much insight on the Lady Raiders.
#15)Greensboro Day School(3-6) Lost last Friday 51-5 to Ravenscroft.
#16)Western Guilford(1-6) Fell to Asheboro 39-36 last night.
#17)Southern Guilford(1-6) 46-22 in the loss column to East Davidson Tuesday.
