Duke Hopes New Coach Can “Cut” to the Chase

Duke University announced this afternoon the hiring of former Ole Miss Head Coach and current Tennessee Offensive Coordinator David Cutcliffe as its new Head Coach.

According to Raleigh’s WRAL, Cutcliffe is expected to make an average salary of $1.5 million dollars per year.

The 53 year old Cutcliffe comes to Duke with previous head coaching experience, having served as the Mississippi coach during the Eli Manning era in Oxford. Cutcliffe’s record with the Rebels was 44-29.

Cutcliffe brings a solid offensive resume with him to Durham and many around the Duke program are excited to see if he can successfully install a high powered offense that can allow the Blue Devils to compete.

As we reported a couple of weeks ago, ACC expert Dave Glenn stated on his blog that sources had told him that Duke’s administration was ready to make a commitment to fielding a competitive team. The depth of this new commitment is yet to be seen but shelling out the big bucks to get an established coach seems to be a sign in the right direction.
