Looking forward to the Little Four

As Don mentioned earlier the Pizza Hut Little Four Basketball Tournament gets started later today at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center. We should see some very good high school hoops out there over the next three days.

Greensboro Day School and Dudley will be the boys favorites and Grimsley, Northwest Guilford, and Page should be up at the top for the girls. On the boys side, Page, Grimsley, or Northeast Guilford may be set to pull off an upset or two and for the girls Dudley is not as strong as they have been in recent years but they will be off and running at the opening whistle.

Today in the afternoon for the boys action NEG and Page meet in their annual #4vs.#5 matchup(3:30pm) with the Pirates having lost two straight(one of those to NEG) after Page won six in a row to start the season. Grimsley(7-2) has only lost two games this year and they play (0-7) Smith at 5pm. Greensboro Day comes in at (13-2) and they battle NWG at 7pm and Dudley(4-1) closes it out with their 8:30 contest against the SWG Cowboys.

There are a lot of kids to watch out for with Bruce Woodall, Javan Mitchell, and a healthy Jay Lewis from the Day School and there’s Brandon Pennix, PJ Hairston, and Mike Coger from Dudley, plus Julius Brooks, Luqman Tijani, and Jordan Weethe from Page, then we have Keith Manley, JB Beloved, and Christian Tonkins from Grimsley and watch out for Seth Hawkins and Tecumseh Cleveland fron NEG.

Girls games get under way at 2:30 with defending champion Page meeting SWG, then at 4pm unbeaten NWG faces NEG, in the evening contests Dudley goes up against Smith again, having just beat the Golden Eagles 40-38 back on December 14 at Smith, and at 7:30 pm #1 Grimsley (in what many feel will be coach Phil Weaver’s last Little Four Tournament) rounds out the girls activity taking on Greensboro Day.

Girls to watch include Grimsley’s Trumae Lucas, Krystin Fields, Jamsmine Alston, and Nicole Hargraves, Page’s Jasmine Gill, Nini Whitaker, and Bijon Fonville, Dudley’s Helen Terry and Brianna Patterson, and NWG’s Anna Schoenblom and Hannah McIntosh.

The Little Four is a fun tournament and you might see some former players there from years gone by, you never know. William Graves, Kenny Belton, Johnny Thomas, Eric Hicks, Brendan Haywood, Alan Fox, Ross Perkins, Josh Chavis, Walker Holt? You never know who will show up. Come check it out at the Coliseum Special Events Center December 26, 27, and 28.
