GTCC baseball news and hitting the Pleasant Garden gym

I was down at Marion’s Corner Market in Pleasant Garden tonight(New Year’s resolution, stay away from Huff’s Store) and it is very cold outside but there was some baseball talk going on out there by the gas pumps.

The word is that Adam Stone from Southeast Guilford and Alan Craven from Grimsley have already quit the baseball team at GTCC. Both are freshmen at the Jamestown campus. Another player, who is from Glenn High School in Kernersville has also left the GTCC Titans. The man that I was talking to did not know the name of the kid from Glenn.

After a quick stop at the Corner Market I made my way on down to the Plesant Garden gymnasium and the Church Basketball League was running full steam ahead in a very cold PG Elementary Gym. I saw Keith, Adam, and Tiger Miller plus Mr. Don Venable and his grandson Justin Venable who were in charge of the Thursday night games.

Seth Stone of SEGHS was playing in the last game I was watching and Seth might end up playing football for Mack Brown at Texas one day. Seth is in the 9th grade at SEG and he is in the neighborhood of 6’0/220 pounds and already benches around 350 pounds.

Tiger Miller told me that he is going to try and make the SEG varsity baseball team and that he might make the switch to catcher in a bold move to land a spot on the varsity squad.

Mr. Venable told me that other schools are coming after Justin as we approach the February national signing date. Justin was the Defensive MVP for North Carolina in the NC/SC Shrine Bowl game held in Spartanburg, S.C. back in December. Justin Venable has verbally committed to East Carolina but now South Carolina and Elon want to get involved. Word has it that Justin has changed his mind and he will play baseball at SEG this year. He had talked earlier about skipping his senior season.
