ACC Basketball weekly honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina’s Wayne Ellington was named ACC Player of the Week and Duke’s Kyle Singler was selected as ACC Rookie of the Week.

A unanimous selection as the player of the week, Ellington scored an ACC-high 36 points, including the game-winning three-pointer with 0.4 seconds to play, in the Tar Heel’s 90-88 overtime win at Clemson Sunday night. On the week, the Wynnewood, Pa., sophomore averaged 26.5 points in two wins on 19-of-30 shooting from the floor, 6-for-11 from three-point range and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. Ellington’s 36 points was a career high and the most by a Tar Heel since Tyler Hansbrough scored 40 points two years ago.

In earning the rookie award for the third time this season, Singler had 14 points and eight rebounds in Duke’s 81-67 win over Cornell on Sunday. The Medford, Ore., native also added four assists, one block and one steal in the contest. He was 5-of-12 from the field and 4-of-6 from the foul line as Duke posted its 58th straight non-conference home victory.
